Young Tuvok: "Where's the logic in that?"
Vulcan Master: "Hidden for you to find, or in plain sight for you to ignore." [#107 Gravity] | Vulcan masters are first established in [Star Trek I: The Motion Picture]. In Vulcan society, they are elder mentors who guide aspirants through the arduous Kolinahr ritual. One is seen guiding the initially rebellious young Tuvok in [#107 Gravity]. In later Star Trek, implicitly and in general terms a Vulcan master is a respected mentor, usually an elder, who has attained superior skill and/or knowledge in a particular discipline. In [#92 Demon], Tom Paris uses "Vulcan Master" in a different sense:
Paris: "You put Tuvok in his place right in front of everybody."
Kim: "He was stating the obvious again, talking down to me like I didn't know anything about Demon Class planets."
Paris: "I am not criticising you. Believe me, nobody enjoys seeing the Vulcan Master put down a peg more than I do." |
