In 2376, USS Voyager comes to the rescue of the USS Equinox. Until then both crews believed they were the only Starfleet personnel in the Delta Quadrant. Janeway explains to Seven that the Equinox's captain, Rudolph "Rudy" Ransom III, re-established contact with the Yridians on behalf of the Federation.
![]() | Chakotay, Janeway and Seven see the distress call sent out by the Federation Starship Equinox.
Chakotay: "What's it doing in the Delta Quadrant?" Seven: "Perhaps it's searching for Voyager." Janeway: "The Equinox is a Nova-class ship. It was designed for planetary research, not long-range tactical missions." Seven: "I've got the co-ordinates. Heading 258 mark 12." Janeway to Chakotay: "Set a course, maximum warp. Go to red alert." Chakotay leaves to carry out his orders. As Janeway leaves she pauses in the entrance to look back at the footage of Ransom on the main viewscreen and says to his image: "Hang on, Captain." |
![]() | Janeway and Seven depart the Astrometrics Lab together.
Seven: "Did you know this individual?" Janeway: "Only by reputation. He was an exo-biologist promoted to captain after he made first contact with the Yridians." Seven: "Species 6291. The Collective determined that they were extinct." Janeway: "So did the Federation. Ransom proved otherwise. I always wanted to meet him. Too bad it won't be under better circumstances." |
In [Enterprise: Twilight] (year 2153), the crew of NX-01 Enterprise have dealings with one Yedrin, a Yridian:
Yedrin: "I deal in Rigelian flamegems. I was waiting for a prospective buyer when you attacked me."
Tucker: "You picked an odd place for a business transaction."
Reed: "We searched your ship. We didn’t find any cargo."
Yedrin: "That's because I jettisoned it all. I thought you where going to arrest me. Flamegems are illegal in this region."
Reed: "We found your species in our Vulcan database. It appears Yridians are information dealers."
Between first contact between Humans and Yridians in 2153, somehow the Yridians disappeared until contact was re-established by Ransom.
The Yridians form a civilisation of humanoids. They are known as interstellar dealers of information, as noted by NX-01 Enterprise's crew. Yridian agents, working for Cardassian interests, were responsible for the murder of archaeologist Richard Galen in 2369, in an effort to steal his research data. The Romulans intercepted communications between the Yridians and the Cardassians, making the Romulans aware of the importance of Galen's work. [TNG: The Chase]. picture: the effort of Galen's work is vindicated when Captain Picard and other species discover a common link [TNG: The Chase] In [TNG: Birthright] a Yridian named Jaglom Shrek (who of course is not a green ogre) is noted. Yridian operatives were suspected of helping Cardassians transfer weapons into the Demilitarised Zone in late 2370, a claim never proven, [DS9: The Maquis]. In 2370, an Yridian trader named Yranac witnessed the apparent death of Captain Picard and was brought aboard Picard's ship, the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, for interrogation, [TNG: Gambit]. (Alan Altshuld, who plays Yranac, also plays the Takarian sandal-maker in [#47 False Profits].) In 2370 a cargo vessel of Yridian registry received a shipment of magnesite ore from the Duras sisters, [TNG: Firstborn]. In 2371, Garak the tailor (with dubious Cardassian contacts and a murky past) on Deep Space 9 listed an unnamed Yridian national as someone who might want Garak dead, [DS9: Improbable Cause]. Yridian brandy is shared by way of celebration in [DS9: The Sword of Kahless]. Deanna Troi, seen in [TNG], [TNG]-related films, [#130 Pathfinder], [#144 Life Line] and [#152 Inside Man], enjoys Yridian tea, noted in [TNG: Eye of the Beholder]. The grazing animal known as the Yridian yak, noted for its large size, is mentioned in [DS9: Accession].
