The pleasure-planet Risa, just inside the Beta Quadrant is a tropical Class-M planet noted for its beautiful beaches and resort facilities, and its open sexuality. It is first seen in [TNG: Captain's Holiday]. An extremely popular tourist destination, Risa hosts millions of guests every year. Risa was actually a rain-soaked, geologically unstable planet, but a sophisticated weather control system created a virtually perfect climate, [DS9: Let He Who Is Without Sin]. Geordi La Forge was scheduled to attend a seminar on Risa but was kidnapped en route to the conference, [TNG: The Mind's Eye]. William Riker, who was very fond of Risa, vacationed there again in 2368, when he met a beautiful woman who was secretly a Ktaran operative seeking to infiltrate Starfleet, [TNG: The Game]. It is mentioned in [DS9: Defiant] and [DS9: The Abandoned]. Ambassador Krajensky was on his way to Risa in 2371 when he disappeared and was replaced by a Founder who assumed his form and identity, [DS9: The Adversary].

Baked Risan beans is a menu dish that comprises seeds from a leguminous plant indigenous to Risa, baked and served as a side dish, mentioned as part of a fantasy meal when Tom Paris and Harry Kim are imprisoned by the Akritiri in [#45 The Chute]. Paris' full dream meal consists of: "A couple of barbecued T-bone steaks with baked Risan beans and cherry pie."

After Tuvok loses his Vulcan logic after being assaulted with a mysterious Ba'Neth weapon in 2376, he becomes playful and asks Neelix if he can visit Risa on the holodeck, [#126 Riddles]: "I've been reviewing the Holodeck files. I wish to visit the Risa Water Recreation Park." But the Doctor restores his Vulcan being and Tuvok does not visit holo-Risa.

Torres wishes to share with Paris a weekend on the holodeck in a holosimulation of Gedi Prime, which is a sensual paradise with crystalline beaches, mood reefs, bioluminescent waterfalls, a championship golf course, and makes Risa look like a tourist trap, [#149 Drive].
