	KESSIK IV

Kessik IV Kessik is on the STSC star chart, presumably the principal planet of the Kessik system. Location of a Federation colony where B'Elanna Torres grew up. She lived there with her Klingon mother, named Miral, and human father, named John. When B'Elanna was five years old, her father abruptly left her and her mother, which B'Elanna mentions in [#14 Faces], although in [#158 Lineage] it is stated that her father left her when she was twelve years old. I suggest the following way to deal with this lack of continuity: for both to be true her father would have had to effectively leave her, or start leaving her, when she was five, and the separation from Miral to be formal or permanent when she was twelve, with him occasionally visiting during that time. This is not that implausible, as family break-ups often happen over a period of years.

Human Torres to Paris: "I grew up in a colony on Kessik IV. My mother and I were the only Klingons there, and that was a time when relations between the Homeworld and the Federation weren't too cordial. Nobody ever said anything but we were different, and I didn't like that feeling. Then my father left when I was five years old. One day he was there and the next he wasn't. I cried myself to sleep every night for months. Of course I never told anybody, and then I finally decided that he left because I looked like a Klingon, and so I tried to look human."
