JARLETH

map or diagram extract

In late 2373, in [#66 Displaced], the Voyager crew are imprisoned by the Nyrians on a large starship containing numerous habitats, each one tailored for the members of the species detained within. A humanoid visits the Voyager crew, travelling from his own prison habitat via a portal. He identifies himself as Jarleth. It would seem that this is his personal name, rather than a generic name referring to his species which would then, if source STSC is to be believed, give their name to the planet (and vice versa), as the humanoid distinguishes between himself and his people during the course of his conversation with Janeway. I believe that Jarleth is shown in source STSC as a place by mistake; other entries on the Voyager route star charts in STSC refer to places not individual people; where individuals are mentioned, it is in terms of, say, "Marayna's station".

Alien: "Er, sorry for the intrusion, but I, I wanted to welcome you. I'm, er, Jarleth, your neighbour."

Janeway: "Where did you come from?"
Jarleth talks as he looks round at the humans' environment, peering into their fruit bowls and other food receptacles: "My people live in the other environment, through that portal. It's, er, quite different, more desert-like. This place, it's so, er, green. But I'm sure it's suitable for you. The Nyrians undoubtedly had a good look through your databanks."
