Janet's Star Trek Voyager Site

STANDARD ABBREVIATIONS USED ON THIS SITE

This page is for standard abbreviations used by this site e.g. when I cite sources and, when referring to Star Trek shows and films, as used by fans and canon sources. For explanations of commonly used Treknology abbreviations/acronyms (e.g. LCARS, SIF, STA) beam to TREKNOLOGY ABBREVIATIONS.

Throughout the site, many images show a link (in MS Internet Explorer the image has a border and, assuming default settings, the cursor changes to a hand with a pointing index finger). Click the image to see a larger version.     Sometimes the image has text or an image label underneath indicating this and usually the browser's status text too - these are examples==> non-clickable, for illustration purposes only

[#162 and #163 Workforce]
Square brackets enclose episode name, or episode number and episode name.

Click this banner icon to see an animated .gif screenshot. You need to have animated images enabled.
non-clickable, for illustration purposes only Click this banner to watch a Flash movie e.g. episode excerpt (created with Macromedia's Flash program version 5). You need to have the Flash Player plug-in installed on your system. You probably have it as Macromedia claims: "Over 98.3% of all web users have the Macromedia Flash Player." More about Flash in About Flash and its use on this site. Flash movies download faster than the equivalent-size animated .gif, and displays more smoothly. Where applicable, a description of the movie's content appears immediately below the banner.

As well as the standard abbreviations mentioned above, I use conventional Star Trek abbreviations. Examples follow:

the show / [episode name] /
[#episode number episode name] e.g. [#22 Non Sequitur],
or just [Star Trek Voyager]
Note that it is given without a colon, although strictly it should be [Star Trek: Voyager] - I give it without a colon for search engine purposes according to the "top searches" data which my search engine host provides
=Star Trek: Voyager
[TOS] / [TOS: episode name]=Star Trek: the Original Series
[TNG] / [TNG: episode name]=Star Trek: The Next Generation
[DS9] / [DS9: episode name]=Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
[Enterprise] / [Enterprise: episode name]=[Enterprise]. The show became known as [Star Trek: Enterprise] starting with Season 3 but I continue to use [Enterprise] for consistency.
[ST: First Contact]=Star Trek: First Contact
[ST: Insurrection]=Star Trek: Insurrection
[ST: Nemesis]=Star Trek: Nemesis

Note: After the [TOS]-crew handed the baton of Star Trek (metaphorically speaking) to the [TNG] crew, achieved during the film [Star Trek VII: Generations], Paramount Pictures quietly dropped the Roman numerals, so that films after that (and, indeed, often including [Star Trek: Generations]) are known by title only, without a number. However, on this site nowadays I usually put the film title in full and insert the Roman numerals, even for the first film, so that the relative order of the films is always clear e.g. [Star Trek IX: Insurrection] obviously came after [Star Trek VII: Generations]. (Incidentally, I bet the next Star Trek film will sound grand and have at least three syllables in its title, probably four, following the no doubt unintended precedents of "Generations", "Insurrection" and "Nemesis". I thought that the tenth film would have four syllables, based on "Generations" and "Insurrection" - what a lovely grand a word "insurrection" is! better than "mutiny" - but "Nemesis" turned out to have only three.)

Logo images for the films are from screenshots I took. Logos of the series are common on the Web but I got them from TOSTW, enhanced by me.
