In [#148 Imperfection], the Delta Flyer is used in a salvage mission inside a Borg debris field. When it proves essential in early 2377 to replace Seven's malfunctioning cortical node in order to save her life, Janeway, Paris and Tuvok take the Delta Flyer to the Borg debris field that Voyager passed six days ago, just outside the Yontasa Expanse. The new version of the Delta Flyer is seen in this episode. (It was destroyed in the previous story [#146 and #147 Unimatrix Zero] at the end of Part 1 of that story.) The original cockpit's touch-sensitive interfaces directly in front of the large forward windows have been replaced by two separate hand-operated joysticks.
Some of the analogue controls which were located to the right of the pilot's chair have also been replaced with new controls.
Janeway and Tuvok beam onto a derelict Borg cube and salvage a cortical node from a dead drone (pictured above half out of the drone's head). Due to alien weapons attack, the Delta Flyer's transporter is temporarily taken offline. On the cube, Janeway and Tuvok are jumped by a group of unidentified aliens who are there salvaging parts. Tuvok is wounded, but they escape and are beamed back to the Delta Flyer. The Delta Flyer maneuvers to avoid being hit by the weapons of the salvage aliens' ship. The salvage aliens pursue the Delta Flyer. Paris orders Janeway to the tactical station and says: "When I bring us around, target their engine core." She scores a direct hit and the salvage aliens break pursuit.
It turns out, however, that only a cortical node from a living drone will suffice, rendering that Delta Flyer mission unsuccessful. Icheb donates his own. Although the newly rebuilt Delta Flyer is seen in this episode, it is not until the following episode, [#149 Drive], that it is fully tested. This section is given in episode order. Although [Imperfection] was first aired before [Drive], chronologically it occurs AFTER [Drive] according to the star dates. The star date for [Imperfection] is 54129.4 and that for [Drive] is 54058.6. Therefore, what looks like the continuity blooper of Paris in [Imperfection] being seen to wear a wedding ring (noticeable during surgery) is NOT a blooper but is correct because Paris gets married toward the very end of [Drive].
