DELTA FLYER MISSIONS

In [#135 Tsunkatse], the Delta Flyer aids Voyager as it tries to rescues Tuvok and Seven from Penk, Tsunkatse manager.

Voyager is in the Norcadian star system. Janeway takes the Delta Flyer in order to tour a planet in a neighbouring star system. Tuvok and Seven take a shuttlecraft to study a nearby micronebula that is on the verge of collapse but are kidnapped en route by Penk (pictured) who manages Tsunkatse tournaments and forcible recruits his contestants. Tsunkatse is a martial art with bouts graded by colour; in red matches the winner is required to kill the loser.

Unaware of Tuvok's and Seven's disappearance, Chakotay, Kim, Paris and Neelix take shore leave and attend a Tsunkatse tournament on Norcadia. Chakotay and all Voyager crew attending the tournament are shocked to discover that Seven is one of the fighters. Voyager cannot beam Seven out. Torres thinks that Seven's lifesigns are masked somehow. They later learn that the figures in the Tsunkatse arena are holographic projections, transmitted from a different location. They also realise later that the transmissions are emanating from a ship travelling round the region, and that Tuvok and Seven are captives aboard.

When Neelix, as ship's ambassador, makes a formal protest, the Norcadian Ambassador tells him that he will begin an immediate investigation but Neelix is not convinced that the Norcadian government has nothing to do with the fact that friendly aliens are being kidnapped and forced to compete in Tsunkatse matches. When Voyager finally tracks down and challenges Penk's heavily armoured Tsunkatse vessel, sensors cannot penetrate Penk's shields to enable the crew to beam out Seven and Tuvok. In the exchange of weapons fire, Voyager's sustains damage but manages to get a transporter lock on Tuvok and beam him to safety. Tuvok tells them Seven is fighting to the death in a red match (pictured) on, he believes, the uppermost deck. Kim reports that section is protected by multi-phasic forcefields and he cannot penetrate them. Under Penk's attack, Voyager's shields go down. Voyager engages evasive maneuvers, then Chakotay decides to target Penk's signal generators on the basis that if no one can watch the match Penk has no reason to continue it. Voyager suffers a hull breach and its weapons go down.

Then Janeway in the Delta Flyer arrives and attacks Penk's ship. She targets Penk's signal generators and severs a signal antenna. Penk reduces power to his ship's forcefields, enabling Kim to detect two lifesigns in there - Seven and a Hirogen (her opponent in the Tsunkatse ring). As he cannot get an individual lock he transports both of them to Voyager.
