In [#99 Once Upon A Time], the Delta Flyer crashes on a planet and gets trapped three kilometres beneath the rock.
The Delta Flyer is on a survey mission, crewed by Paris, Tuvok and Ensign Samantha Wildman, runs into an ion storm which knocks out impulse power and damages the primary systems leaving life support failing. Starboard thrusters go down as the Delta Flyer crashlands on a class-M planet. The planet has a nickel-iron core and a bemonite mantle and the Delta Flyer is buried three kilometres beneath the surface in a cavern flooded with fluorine gas.

As the Voyager crew prepare to search for the away team, Neelix takes charge of his young god-daughter, Naomi, daughter of Ensign Wildman, with the aim of keeping her occupied and unaware of her mother's predicament.
Kim tracks the Delta Flyer's co-ordinates on the planetoid. Although there are no lifesigns, rescue teams are dispatched to the crater in search of the lost crew. Naomi is worried when her mother does not call, and despite Neelix's attempts to distract her in the children's holoprogram of tales known collectively as The Adventures of Flotter, she goes to the bridge in search of Neelix and overhears talk of the crash and the lost crewmembers. Neelix helps Naomi find the strength to cope with the concept of bereavement.
There is a flash on the console by Tuvok as the circuits burn out. He reports: "The magnetic relays have overloaded." |
Ensign Samantha Wildman, who is injured |
| Meanwhile, on the Delta Flyer, as the life support systems begin to fail, Paris, Tuvok and Samantha Wildman record farewell messages to their loved ones. Above them, Chakotay and Seven locate the Delta Flyer buried underneath the rock. A massive digging effort begins using phaser drills, but an ion storm is approaching, and they do not have much time before it hits. | |
 | With two minutes left until their oxygen runs out, the Delta Flyer crew hear the rescue team digging above them. Kim is able to get a transporter lock on the shuttle and, just before the ion storm hits, it is transported, along with its crew, to Voyager's shuttlebay. The Delta Flyer is battered but intact. The injured away team member, Ensign Wildman, receives treatment in sickbay then reunited with Naomi. |
