STATUS REPORT

PART 1

With the discovery of the existence of Unimatrix Zero, Janeway's ultimate plan, which is only partially realised, is to start a Borg civil war in which the drones will regain their independence, with drones who have the recessive gene retaining their memories and hence their individuality when they wake from their regeneration cycles.

As part of the plan, Voyager attacks a Borg class-4 tactical cube while Janeway, Tuvok, and Torres take in the Delta Flyer. The Borg Queen destroys the Delta Flyer moments after the away team beams onto the Borg cube. The Borg adapt quickly to the infiltration and the away team members are assimilated.

PART 2

The Doctor, who is monitoring the situation from Voyager, alerts Chakotay who tells the crew to break off the attack and retreat as everything is going according to plan, for the away team members had been injected with a neural suppressant to keep their Borg implants from really connecting them to the Borg Collective. However, Tuvok's neural suppressant starts wearing off and the Borg Queen communicates telepathically with him. Although Janeway and Torres succeed in getting the virus into the Central Plexus, Tuvok stops them leaving and they are captured. The Borg Queen alters the virus to kill the drones. She tells Janeway that unless the captain tells the free drones to rejoin the Collective, she will go to Unimatrix Zero and kill all the drones there. Janeway is put into contact with Chakotay on Voyager to tell him the free drones must return to the Collective but by telling him that Unimatrix Zero can no longer exist she secretly conveys her real orders. After Seven tells everyone in Unimatrix Zero of the plan, they all agree with it and plan to get the away team back to Voyager. Voyager is hailed by a Borg sphere - it is commanded by Korok, a Klingon Borg drone, who offers to help them destroy the Cube. Both Voyager and Korok attack the Borg cube. As it explodes, Kim manages to beam Janeway, Tuvok and Torres back to Voyager where they will have their Borg implants removed. Meanwhile Unimatrix Zero does indeed cease to exist, but it only means the renegade drones cannot meet there - they remain individuals.

EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES

Just before Janeway leaves on the away mission, Chakotay jokes, both knowing they may not see each other again: "Anything you'd like done round here while you're gone, gravity plating recalibrated, carpets cleaned?" She replies: "Surprise me."

Voyager is damaged in the Borg attack. A direct hit to the port nacelle is sustained which leaves the ship venting plasma and there is a hull breach on Deck 11.

PART 2

When the Borg access Voyager's tactical controls they bring shields down and take sensors offline. The ensuing conflict results in heavy damage, including hull breaches on Decks 5, 6 and 7. By the end of the episode repairs have brought both the warp core and the navigational array online with shields up to twenty percent. They also manage to repair the short-range sensors.
