STATUS REPORT

To rescue Steth's ship, Paris suggests using a symmetric warp field to contain the instabilities in the ship's space-folding core. To do this the crew brings the ship in using the tractor beam, killing its momentum, and then generates a warp field around the ship.

Part of the layout diagram for deck 5, section 15, is seen in this episode, displayed on a wall monitor.

the diagram is shown in large close-up at

EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES

According to Kim, it is difficult to replicate the polyduranide used in golf clubs.

Voyager stops at the fourth planet in the Kendren system to gather food supplies. The visit is referred to, and not seen on tv.

SHUTTLECRAFT

The DNA-swapping alien steals the Type-9 shuttlecraft fitted with coaxial warp drive which incorporates a polaric modulator (a device constructed on the principles of an Earth 20th century car carburretor). Paris disables the shuttlecraft by targetting the polaric modulator, hitting it with a chromo-electric pulse, so as to disrupt its engines. The shuttlecraft is retrieved. As no mention is made later in the series of the use of a shuttlecraft with coaxial warp drive, presumably the drive was dismantled and replaced by conventional engines.

The ship stolen by the alien is powered by a coaxial warp drive. Paris recognises it as the hypothetical propulsion system that Starfleet engineers have been dreaming about for years.
