Without asking Torres' permission, Seven reconfigures the power couplings in a section of Jefferies tubes because the astrometrics lab requires additional energy. She re-routes some energy from engineering while the engineering staff are running a warp core diagnostic.
Gravitational forces between the binary pulsars are so intense that everything within fifty million kilometres is pulled in. Gamma radiation levels are also high and random proton bursts are also present. Voyager stays at a distance of 90 million kilometres, with shields at maximum strength. Later, gambling that it will force the aliens off Voyager, Janeway deliberately steers the ship toward the binary pulsars.
The submolecular DNA tags used by the aliens transmit a signal and are slightly out of phase, which is why initial scans do not reveal them. The Doctor believes that a neuroleptic shock would neutralise the genetic tags. Voyager's power relays can be reconfigured to emit the shock. Seven begins making the necessary adjustments in engineering but is interrupted by two aliens.

According to the Doctor, there are 257 rooms on Voyager.
The Doctor isolates communications frequency Epsilon 2 from the rest of the system so he and Seven can communicate secretly.

There is a problem with the plasma manifold. Torres tells engineering to lock it down and worry about it tomorrow, though she does so in order that she need not leave her romantic dinner with Paris.
In certain private quarters, the sink unit is flush to the wall. When pulled out it automatically activates by pouring water into the sink. Janeway's bathroom has a permanently mounted sink, seen in [#141 Live Fast and Prosper]. Full details of Torres' bathroom are not known - parts are seen in several episodes e.g. [#97 Extreme Risk]. The sink unit of Tuvok's quarters has the same arrangement as Chakotay's, seen in [#150 Repression].

A precisely modulated phaser beam reveals the aliens.
As Voyager travels through the binary pulsar, hull stress is noted at 45 teradynes and eventually exceeds maximum tolerance. Shields fail, and structural integrity is down to 20 per cent. There are hull breaches on Decks 4, 7, 8 and 12. Main power is offline. Outer hull temp reaches 9,000 degrees Celsius.
As chief of security, Tuvok has thirteen department heads reporting to him.
As seen in this episode the usual term used by Starfleet personnel taking over a post from another is something like "You're relieved" or "I'm relieving you". It is also seen in other Star Trek.
The aliens possess submolecular technology beyond anything Starfleet has developed.
