Voyager attempts to destroy asteroids heading for a planet containing several Nezu colonies. Investigating a sample the crew discover that they are artificial mechanisms. Later, while attempting to retrieve Tuvok, Neelix and several Nezu from a Nezu mag-lev carriage, Voyager is attacked by a starship of the Etanian Order but manages to disable the attacking ship thanks to read-outs of his systems secretly procured by Dr Vatm, a Nezu scientist.

Three shuttlecraft are sent to search for Dr. Vatm. A layer of electrodynamic disturbance in the planet's atmosphere forces Tuvok and Neelix's shuttlecraft down to the planet surface. Presumably the shuttlecraft is retrieved although not so stated on screen.
