STATUS REPORT

Voyager locates the crashed shuttlecraft Sacajawea and its crew, Janeway and Chakotay who are on the planet's surface. Janeway is seriously injured and, unknown to the crew untill afterwards, battling an alien parasite that has invaded her cerebral cortex. The Doctor is beamed to the planet surface to treat her rather than convey her back to the ship.

In Janeway's hallucination, when the crew searches for Janeway's presence on the ship, Torres reconfigures the lateral sensor array to scan subspace. She has the forward array ready to scan for temporal phase shifting, chroniton particles or field flux, and activates the magneton scanner (mentioned in [#13 Cathexis] as being the most powerful scanner on board) to see if it might pick up an anomalous presence.

Janeway orders "Let's run a second level temporal scan." This indicates that there is also a first level temporal scan.

EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES

In a hallucination, Janeway starts to reconfigure her combadge as a homing beacon but later disconnects it.

SHUTTLECRAFT

The shuttlecraft Sacajawea is caught in a magnetic storm and crash lands on the second planet of a binary system. Attitude control and navigational systems are out. When hydrazine gas levels reach 112 parts per measure, the computer tells them to evacuate the ship. On the planet Janeway hallucinates that she is killed by a Vidiian. The shuttlecraft is attacked two additional times in Janeway's hallucinations. In the first attack a Vidiian ship fires on the reactant injectors, which need to be shut down so they do not leak antimatter. The magnetic fields fail and the gas flow separators go down, forcing them to dump the shuttlecraft's warp core. In the second shuttlecraft hallucination, Janeway and Chakotay use a tachyon burst to disperse the temporal field in which they believe themselves to be trapped. Presumably the crashed shuttlecraft is retrieved.

A formal Starfleet burial in space is seen, (first seen, with variations, in [Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan]). It includes ejection of the deceased's body from the ship inside a photon torpedo casing.
