STATUS REPORT

Voyager responds to an an old Earth S.O.S. signal, having to land on the planet surface due to trinimbic interference in the planet's upper atmosphere. This is the first time in Star Trek that a starship is seen landing on a planet and taking off.

Voyager extends landing feet pads (there are four)

The trinimbic interference from the planet's upper atmosphere blocks sensor readings. It is also impossible to transport through the interference or to safely navigate a shuttle through the currents. Due to these factors, Janeway decides to land Voyager on the planet surface. Turbulence during the landing causes EM discharges in the lateral relays. Kim reroutes the ODN conduit.

Warp 9.9, which Voyager can sustain, is equivalent to about 4 billion miles per second.

EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES

The SOS is sent on AM radio frequency, which is not one of the standard frequencies monitored on Voyager, since messages on the channel only travel at the speed of light and are too slow for interstellar communications.

A universal translator is built into a combadge.
