I shall refer to the planet as New Earth, the name which Janeway and Chakotay christen it. References are to [Resolutions] and screenshots are from that episode. Screenshots were chosen to show objects, not people, which is why occasionally the people are slightly blurred. Screenshots are not often shown in the order in which they are seen on tv.

In late 2372, in [#41 Resolutions], Janeway and Chakotay are forced to stay on a planet in the Delta Quadrant (part is pictured left) and send USS Voyager and its crew onward to resume the journey to the Alpha Quadrant. The reason is that, at least seventeen days before the episode opens, they were bitten by a particular species of burrowing insect which carries a virus. The Doctor's exhaustive research over seventeen days reveals that something in the planet's environment shields them from its effects but if they left the planet the virus could prove fatal. Janeway and Chakotay spend two months on New Earth before being retrieved by Voyager after Tuvok and the crew obtain the antiviral serum which successfully counteracts the virus.

Tuvok helps prepare Janeway and Chakotay for a long stay, possibly permanent, on New Earth by ensuring that they have everything they need for survival and for Janeway's intended research as she hopes to find a cure to the virus. Equipment mentioned, which thus indicates some of the supplies carried by Voyager, include a modular shelter, weapons (phasers), tricorders, a replicator which can be detached from the ship and presumably operate in and be powered from within the modular shelter, petri dishes, protein analysers and DNA sequencers. They are also left a type-9 shuttlecraft, which is not seen on tv. Large containers, such as seen in Voyager's cargobays, are used to transport the equipment to New Earth.

Equipment includes a Starfleet standard modular shelter - the component pieces are transported to the planet surface and Chakotay unpacks them. He notes that the panels are grey on one side, beige on the other, and jokingly remarks that a tasteful pinstripe would have been nice. They construct the shelter with the beige on the inside. This infers that the modular shelter is symmetrical, which is apparently borne out from what we see of it in the episode, since the shelter could be constructed with the grey on the inside by effectively turning each piece the other way out.

Chakotay: "Does it matter which way these things go?"
Janeway: "I guess it depends if you're in a beige mood or a grey mood."
Chakotay: "That's not much of a choice. Couldn't Starfleet have come up with something a little more cheerful?"
Janeway: "Like polka dots?"
Chakotay: "I was thinking more of a tasteful pinstripe, something in blues and greens. Well, I suggest we put the grey on the outside and the beige inside."
Janeway: "I like that. I've always looked better in beige."
