A The upper level of the lab features a control console which provides a number of stools for personnel who sit while working. The circular console facilitates easy communication between two or more team members working there.

B A double set of automatic sliding doors leads into the Pathfinder lab's extensive holodeck facility, which allows experimental technologies to be tested in a realistic setting. One of the programs is a holosimulation of USS Voyager which Lt. Reginald Barclay uses frequently.

A series of free-standing work consoles are located in various places around the lab. These can be operated by touch-sensitive LCARS controls or voice commands. From this unit is activated the main viewscreen which is located on the wall directly in front of it.

D Lt. Reginald Barclay uses this piece of equipment, a free-standing generating system, in his ultimately successful attempt to contact USS Voyager in the Delta Quadrant.

E A guard rail runs along the edge of the upper level. The design is the same as that on starship bridges.

F The upper level of the lab is accessed by a set of large double automatic sliding doors, or by the staircases which rises from the lower level.

Access to the lab is controlled by a security panel by the door. A verbal security code is required to enter. This can be bypassed by anyone who possesses the right skill and knowledge (such as Lt. Barclay), but tampering with the security panel automatically alerts Security which despatches a team within moments. When Barclay found his security code "alpha one seven gamma" had been de-authorised, he took off the security panel and adjusted the controls so that the computer accepted his code again and opened the door.
