| "Legal Liability" is a section of the Brochure which is obtainable only on request (free of charge, postage & packing two bars of latinum). It contains small print which is too small to read, but the lawyer for the Paxau resort holoprogram says that the 1 million word document can be summarised as follows: "The Paxau resort holoprogram is not liable for anything. You name it, we are not liable."
(After I asked the lawyer about the above, he billed me three bars of latinum for the consultation.) |

| Or you could purchase a peace-of-mind insurance policy from this Ferengi. However, if a case is dismissed no pay-out is made, you lose your no-claims discount, and your premium is trebled. If your case succeeds a "finder's fee" is deducted from the money you are awarded [DS9: The Magnificent Ferengi]. | ![]() [Caretaker] |
| Case no. | Description | Judgement | Exhibit A | ||
| CASE 1 | Like Neelix, your long-time girlfriend dumps you during an intimate lunch in the resort. [#52 Warlord] | Kes was not truly herself because her body had been invaded by the consciousness of a murdering tyrant. Her subsequent decision not to reverse her decision was not affected by the resort program. CASE DISMISSED. | ![]() | ||
| CASE 2 | Like Tuvok, Torres and Paris, you're attacked by luau holocharacters. [Alter Ego] | The holocharacters were under the control of an alien being called Marayna who was simply lonely and, according to Mr Tuvok, "The remaining damage to the ship was easily repaired." CASE DISMISSED. | ![]() Additional pictures next page. | ||
| CASE 3 | Like Kim, you fail to spend the luau with the hologal of your dreams and then the relationship goes down the drain. [Alter Ego] | In the words of Mr Paris: "For those of us keeping score, Harry Kim has fallen for a hologram, a Borg, the wrong twin, and now the dearly departed." [#138 Ashes to Ashes] Any upset Mr Kim feels is due to the success or otherwise of his relationships, and is not due to the resort program. CASE DISMISSED. | ![]() | ||
| CASE 4 | Like Paris, your would-be girlfriend is whisked off to dinner by somebody else. Not even if, like Paris, your best friend decides to leave early, leaving you on your own all evening. [Alter Ego] | Any miffed feelings felt by Mr Paris are due to Mr Vorik (the "whisk-er", who was unaware of Mr Paris' feelings for Miss Torres the "whisk-ee"), and these feelings are not due to the resort program. Furthermore, Defence Counsel has produced Exhibit B which shows that Mr Paris was not really all that miffed and took it like a gentleman. CASE DISMISSED. | ![]() | ||
| CASE 5 | Like Tuvok, a holocharacter you meet sabotages the ship's systems in order to try and keep you with her. [Alter Ego] | The holocharacter was an alien called Marayna who was utilising the holocharacter as an interface in order to interact with Voyager's crew. She was not, therefore, part of the holoprogram. CASE DISMISSED. | Text and pictures next page. | ||
| CASE 6 | Like Kes, you are shocked and distressed by the sight of mutilated holocharacters. [Darkling] | The mutilator was a "being" created from the unforeseen result of linkages between new personality subroutines added by Voyager's Doctor to his matrix. The Federation adjudicator has decided not to rule that a hologram is a person under the law [Author, Author]. On the basis of that judgement alone, even the Doctor cannot be held liable, let alone the resort program.
In addition, the shock and distress Miss Kes experienced is judged to be less than that of having your body invaded by the consciousness of a murdering alien tyrant, as happened to Miss Kes in [#52 Warlord]. CASE DISMISSED. |
