| At the start of the episode Neelix has just created the resort. We see Neelix's feet, his reaction to foot massage, and also witness him dancing. While trying out the resort, Paris, Kim and Torres make some amendments. Kes (while forcibly inhabited by the consciousness of evil Ilari tyrant Tieran) dumps Neelix during lunch in the resort. |
|
| Q drops into the resort briefly to question Paris and Kim, and then Neelix, about the best way to woo Kathryn Janeway. |
|
| A macrovirus invades USS Voyager. Janeway and the Doctor are the only ones not to succumb. Eventually Janeway runs the resort program so that the macrovirus is attracted to the holocharacters. Using that as a diversion the Doctor is free to vaccinate all the affected crewmembers, and Janeway successfully detonates an antigen bomb which destroys the macrovirus. |
|
The holoprogram does not feature. It is mentioned once and briefly. Paris invites Neelix to the holodeck but the invitation is declined.
Paris: "After I've done here, a bunch of us are going down to the Resort. Why don't you come along?"
Neelix: "Thanks, but I'm going to turn in early, maybe another time." However, he is merely making an excuse.
Paris: "OK."
Neelix leaves. |

| Substantial parts of this episode take place in the resort holoprogram. Tuvok undertakes to rid Kim of the emotion of love which he feels for Marayna, one of the resort holograms, but is drawn to her himself. However, the Marayna character is actually being used as an interface to interact with the crew. The real Marayna is on a spacecraft in the inversion nebula whose dampening field which extinguishes plasma fires Voyager is investigating - operating the dampening field and maintaining the beautiful nebula for her people is her job. But she takes over Voyager's systems and attacks Tuvok, Paris and Torres using the resort holograms, all in an attempt to persuade Tuvok to stay with her. She does let him and Voyager leave when he tells her he would only stay with her if forced, and he advises that she call for a replacement so that she can overcome her loneliness by living amongst her own kind. In this episode Paris' date with Torres at the luau in the resort is ruined when Vorik whisks her off to a private dinner. |

| The Doctor explains: "My personality improvement project. I've been interviewing the historical personality programs in our database - Socrates, da Vinci, Lord Byron, T'pau a Vulcan, Madam Curie, dozens of then greats, then I select the character traits I find most admirable and merge them into my own program. Improved bedside manner, a fresh prespective on diagnoses, more patience with my patients." (The program is here called "tropical resort simulation 3".) But the linkages between the trait additions bring out the dark aspects of the historical figures, such as ruthlessness and lechery. In a bid to delete the original Doctor's subroutines he attacks Torres and kidnaps Kes. He also mutilates the holocharacters the original Doctor created. The darkling Doctor struggles with the original Doctor's affection for Kes, finally leaping off a precipice and taking her with him! Luckily Janeway penetrates the scattering field he has erected just in time and beams the two of them back to Voyager. This episode has the Doctor reciting the full Hippocratic oath. |
|
| Kes experiences her life in reverse but the Doctor manages to rid her body of the temporal abnormality. The crew celebrate Kes' recovery with a champagne reception in the Paxau resort holoprogram. |
|
| The Nyrians seize USS Voyager by taking off the ship one crewmember every 9 minutes and 20 seconds using a translocator device. The crewmember is replaced by a Nyrian who acts bewildered as if it is a natural phenomenon. The captured crewmembers are put into a "habitat", a prison compound designed to imitate a comfortable Earth environment. One of the Nyrians is translocated into the resort. Voyager's crew gain the upper hand by exploiting the Nyrian discomfort with cold temperatures, and the kidnapped crew is freed, along with those of other species whom the Nyrians had kept as prisoners when stealing their property. During this adventure Torres and Paris hide from pursuing Nyrians in a cold habitat. Once everyone is back aboard Voyager and the Nyrians overcome, Torres joins Paris in the resort - both enjoy feeling warm again, and in each other's company. |
