[#22 Non Sequitur]
In the alternate reality in which Kim finds himself in early 2372, in [#22 Non Sequitur], and back in the Alpha Quadrant, he and that reality's Tom Paris steal the Starfleet prototype runabout USS Yellowstone. They are pursued by a Nebula-class starship which is not named in the episode. The Nebula-class starship is not seen much or in close-up detail in the episode.

The Nebula-class starship is a type of Federation starship, slightly smaller in size than a Galaxy-class vessel.

The Nebula-class ships feature a large upper equipment module, usually employed for sensors, which can be customised for different mission profiles. Nebula-class ships include the following starships: Phoenix, Sutherland and Bellerophon.

A Nebula-class starship pursues the prototype Federation starship USS Prometheus when it is seized by Romulans, in [#82 Message In A Bottle], but is driven off by the Prometheus upon its activating the prototype multi-vector assault mode. The four screenshots left show the Nebula class ship pursuing the Prometheus and firing phasers, then being attacked by the Prometheus in multi-vector assault mode, and receiving a direct hit aft.

Information on Galaxy-class vessels, one of which, the USS Challenger, is seen in an alternate future in [#100 Timeless], is at:

articleThe Starships Called Enterprise And Their Respective Starship Classes with special reference to [Star Trek: Voyager].

A Galaxy-class starship is the "hero" ship in [TNG] and certain [TNG]-era Star Trek films.

The Nebula-class Bellerophon is not to be confused with articlethe Intrepid-class starship Bellerophon. The Nebula-class Bellerophon was barely seen in the battle sequences of [DS9: Emissary]. The Intrepid-class Bellerophon features in [DS9: Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges]).

More information about these starships is given below.

USS Phoenix

Starfleet registry number NCC-65420. The Phoenix was the first appearance of a Nebula-class ship. In 2367, the ship was under the command of Captain Benjamin Maxwell at the time when Maxwell ordered an unauthorized attack on Cardassian forces near Sector 21503. Two Cardassian ships and a Cardassian science station were destroyed by the Phoenix. Maxwell said his actions were intended to prove his suspicions that the Cardassians had been planning a new offensive against the Federation. Maxwell was subsequently relieved of command of the Phoenix, [TNG: The Wounded]. The dedication plaque for the Phoenix in Maxwell's ready room carried the motto 'There will be an answer, let it be.' The starship was presumably named after the historic faster-than-light ship which first broke the light-speed barrier in 2063, which was built by space pioneer Zefram Cochrane and engineer Lily Sloane.

USS Farragut

Starfleet registry number NCC-60591, second ship to bear the name. The Farragut was one of the three starships that transported the crew of the Starship USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D from Veridian III after that ship's saucer section made a crashlanding there in 2371. [Star Trek VII: Generations]. The Farragut was destroyed by Klingon forces in 2373 near the Lembatta Cluster. The Farragut had been assigned to evacuate Federation colonists on Ajilon Prime during the Klingon offensive. [DS9: Nor The Battle To The Strong]

USS Sutherland

Starfleet registry number NCC-72015. The Sutherland was commanded by Commander Data as part of Captain Jean-Luc Picard's armada to blockade the Romulan supply ships supplying the Duras family forces during the Klingon civil war in 2367-2368. [TNG: Redemption]

Behind-the-scenes: The Sutherland was a modification of the Nebula-class USS Phoenix. The upper sensor pod and supporting struts were changed for the Sutherland. The Sutherland was named for Horatio Hornblower's flagship in the classic C. S. Forester novels that served as one of Gene Roddenberry's original inspirations for Star Trek.

USS Endeavour

Starfleet registry number NCC-71805. The Endeavour served in Captain Picard's armada to blockade Romulan supply ships supplying the Duras family forces during the Klingon civil war of 2367-2368. [TNG: Redemption] The Endeavour was stationed in the Cleon Sector later in 2368 when crewmembers of USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D were controlled by Ktarian operatives seeking to gain control of Starfleet; Commander William Riker (seen in [#34 Death Wish]) was ordered to pilot a shuttle to the Endeavour to spread the Ktarian takeover. [TNG: The Game] The Endeavor was part of the Starfleet armada that intercepted a Borg cube at Earth on stardate 50893. [Star Trek VIII: First Contact]. The Starship Endeavour was named in honour of British explorer James Cook's flagship and for NASA's space shuttle. In [#68 Scorpion, Part One], Janeway quotes from the personal log of Captain Amasov of the Endeavour in which he gives his opinion of the Borg.

Excerpt from [Scorpion]

Janeway: "In the words of Jean-Luc Picard: 'In their Collective state, the Borg are utterly without mercy, driven by one will alone: the will to conquer. They are beyond redemption, beyond reason.' And then there's Captain Amasov of the Endeavour: 'It is my opinion that the Borg are as close to pure evil as any race we've ever encountered.'" She trails off when she sees that Chakotay is smiling. "What's so funny?"

Chakotay: "Nothing."
Janeway: "You're smiling. Obviously, I've said something amusing."
Chakotay: "You sounded just like Amasov."
Janeway: "What?"
Chakotay: "Just now, while you were reading his log. You were using his inflections."
Janeway: "I did not."
Chakotay: "Yes, you were. And before that, you were doing a pretty good Picard."
Janeway: "Was I?"

part of USS Hera, [TNG: Interface]

USS Hera

Starfleet registry number NCC-62006. Commanded by Captain Silva La Forge. The Hera had a crew of 300, most of whom were Vulcan. The ship disappeared without a trace in 2370. Captain Silva La Forge was the mother of Enterprise-D engineer Geordi La Forge. [TNG: Interface]. (Geordi La Forge appears in an alternate future in [#100 Timeless]). The Hera was named for the Greek goddess Hera, queen of the gods and wife of Zeus the king of the gods.

USS Melbourne

Really an Excelsior-class starship. Starfleet registry number NCC-62043. The Melbourne was stationed at Starbase 74 in 2364 when the Bynars hijacked the Enterprise-D, but was unable to give chase because of maintenance in progress. [TNG: 11001001]. There were actually two Starships Melbourne. The first was a Nebula-class model, barely glimpsed as a wrecked hulk in the spaceship graveyard from [TNG: The Best Of Both Worlds]. When the scene was redone three years later for [DS9: Emissary], a production decision was made to instead use the more detailed U.S.S. Excelsior model originally built for [Star Trek III: The Search For Spock]. Both models were given the same Starfleet registry number, but since the Excelsior version was seen fairly clearly on screen, and the Nebula version was not seen well, we now assume that the Melbourne 'really' was an Excelsior-class ship.

USS Merrimack

Starfleet registry number NCC-61827. This starship transported the Vulcan ambassador, Sarek, and his party from Legara IV back to Vulcan, following the Legaran conference of 2366. [TNG: Sarek] The Merrimack transported Cadet Wesley Crusher back to Starfleet Academy following his vacation aboard the Enterprise-D in 2368. [TNG: The Game] This ship was named in honour of the vessel that became the iron-clad warship C.S.S. Virginia, which fought for the Confederacy in the American Civil War.

USS Monitor

Starfleet registry number NCC-61826. This starship was sent to the Romulan Neutral Zone border in preparation for a possible battle, after Starfleet received warnings of a Romulan military build-up at planet Nelvana III in 2366. The warnings, from Romulan defector Alidar Jarok, were later found to be baseless. [TNG: The Defector]

Behind-the-scenes: The Nebula-class starship was designed by Ed Miarecki, Rick Sternbach and Mike Okuda. The model was built by Greg Jein.
