| In [#97 Extreme Risk] it was found that Torres had for some months been running holodeck simulations with the holodeck safety protocols disabled and had sustained life-threatening injuries. One holoprogram was 'Torres Zeta One' - a re-creation of the slaughter of the Maquis, including friends Le Paz, Myer, Nelson and Sareen. Torres said: "The way I figure it, I've lost the only family I ever had." - it was all part of her attempt to see if she was really alive. Chakotay helped Torres past this stage of grief. | [#97 Extreme Risk] Holosimulation of the massacre of the Maquis. |
In 2376, [#144 Life Line], Janeway received a message from Admiral Hayes at Starfleet asking for, among other things, information about the former Maquis in her crew.
Janeway: "Status of the Maquis."
Chakotay: "Do you find that surprising?"
Janeway: "I don't think of you, or B'Elanna or the others as Maquis. I think of you as part of my crew."
Chakotay: "You may have forgotten but we haven't. You heard the Admiral: it'll be years before we have to deal with those issues. Let's worry about it then."
[Repression] Ensign Tabor: Bajoran male (wears no earring); close friend of Crewman Jor. He also appears in [Nothing Human]. |
[Repression] Crewman Jor: human female; engineer; close friend of Crewman Tabor. |
[Repression] Crewman Yosa: human male; engineer. |
| In 2377, stardate 54090.4, [#150 Repression], it was discovered that Tuvok, while working undercover for Starfleet as a Maquis infiltrator, had been subjected to mind-control experiments by a Bajoran vedek who was a fanatical member of the Maquis, called Teero Anaydis. Teero had implanted into Tuvok's mind the compulsion to act like a Maquis and "awaken" the other Maquis on board USS Voyager. The trigger comprised the words of an incantation spoken in Bajoran. Teero transmitted these words to Tuvok disguised in a letter to Tuvok from his (Tuvok's) son. Tuvok was thus "activated" and began attacking certain Maquis members of the crew . He mind-melded with them to implant the same compulsion in them, and after the attack they were left in a comatose state but revived sometime later e.g. 29 hours in Chakotay's case. It resulted in several members of the Maquis taking over the ship. | [Repression] Bajoran vedek called Teero: "This is a holy time." |
TOSTFF and ST Monthly spell Teero's personal name "Anaydis", "Anaydus" and "Anadus". The latest published Encyclopaedia edition does not extend into Seasons 6 and 7 so Teero does not appear. I use "Anaydis" which appears in TOSTFF's list of Voyager's crew, even though in earlier issues TOSTFF also uses a different spelling.

The chant used by Teero is Bajoran. The spelling of the Bajoran chant in ST Monthly is Pagh t'em far, B'tanay. In Encyclopaedia the first word or phrase is spelled Pagh'tem'far. The phrase was also used in [DS9: Rapture] and is a word/phrase for the Bajoran concept of a sacred vision.
The Doctor in sickbay with comatose patients [Repression] | But Janeway's words to Tuvok persuaded him to betray the Maquis (again) and restore their minds through another mind-meld. Maquis crewmembers with whom Tuvok mind-melded were, in order, Crewman Tabor, Crewman Yosa, Crewman Jor, Lt. Torres and Cmdr. Chakotay, and presumably Lt Ayala.

Before it was realised why former Maquis were being targeted and by whom, Chakotay gathered all the former Maquis crewmembers in the messhall, tried to answer their concerns and ordered that they should for the time being go armed with phasers and always travel with a partner. The pictures below are of that meeting and show that the former Maquis include two Bolians (Chell is one) and a Vulcan female (she could be Romulan but I feel this is less likely).

[Repression] Armed with phaser rifles, the "awakened" Maquis set about seizing control of Voyager. |

Chakotay and followers seize control of the bridge. Chakotay fires a phaser at Kim.
[Repression] Janeway is put into the brig at Chakotay's orders.

[Repression] Once the Maquis take control of the ship, they change into their Maquis outfits. |
NOTES
- The symbol forming the left border of the page background is the Maquis patch. Source: Encylopaedia.
- I chose a natural-looking fabric weave for the main page background as the Maquis did/do not of course wear Starfleet uniform.
- The Star Trek writers took the name from the French Resistance group of the Second World War called the Maquis, and "seeded" the back-story into the two Star Trek series currently being aired so that tv viewers would be familiar with the Maquis when [Star Trek Voyager] started being broadcast, especially as the opening [Star Trek Voyager] story, [#1 and #2 Caretaker], starts with Chakotay's Maquis ship being pursued by Cardassians. The "seeded" stories were [TNG: Journey's End], [TNG: Pre-emptive Strike], [DS9: The Maquis, Parts 1 and 2].
