VIDIIANS

The Vidiians are a humanoid spacefaring species native to the Delta Quadrant and once known as a society of educators, artists, sculptors and explorers.

The members of the Vidiian Sodality have been stricken by the phage for two millennia: the phage destroys the organs of the body. They transplanted organs from healthy beings, many of whom they captured for the purpose. The Vidiians developed sophisticated medical technology to facilitate interspecies transplants. A 'honatta' was a Vidiian assigned to a fellow-Vidiian of note, and charged with finding suitable transplant organs for him, as Dereth acted for Motura, the Vidiian who received Neelix's stolen lungs in [#14 Phage].

In [#114 Think Tank] Kurros told Janeway that the 'Think Tank' found a cure for the phage.

In [#143 Fury], Kes returned to Voyager on a misguided desire for revenge against the crew. She travelled back in time to when Voyager was suffering constant attack by the Vidiians and plotted to hand over enough tactical data to them so that they could take the ship. Her plan was foiled by Janeway who was forced to kill her, and who then took action to ensure that the incident would not occur, i.e. that Kes would change her mind about revenge, not travel back in time and not plot with the Vidiians. At the end of that story Kes set out to return to Ocampa.
