TALAXIANS FEATURED IN [STAR TREK: VOYAGER]

Names are in alphabetical order.

Laxeth
is communications master of a Talaxian convoy, and an old friend of Neelix. Laxeth served on the Talaxian convoy that Lieutenant Thomas Paris joined in 2372, ostensibly leaving USS Voyager permanently, as part of a scheme to flush out the spy for the Kazon aboard Voyager. [#36 Investigations].

Neelix
Talaxian trader who joined the crew of USS Voyager in 2371 [Caretaker]. Neelix was brought up on Rinax, a moon of Talax [Jetrel]. Neelix was very close to Alixia, one of his sisters. The two enjoyed many adventures of exploration together [Rise]. Neelix bred orchids, which he liked to serve in salads with Baldoxic vinegar [Tattoo]. Neelix's entire family was killed when Rinax was devastated by the metreon cascade attack by the Haakonian Order, but Neelix survived because he was on Talax, fleeing from military duty in a war he felt was unjust [Jetrel]. Neelix worked for two years on an orbital tether maintenance team on Talax [Rise]. He served for two years as an engineer's assistant aboard a Trabalian freighter [Threshold] and also worked in a mining colony [#58 Blood Fever]. There were a few incidents in Neelix's past that he would probably have preferred to have forgotten. He and his friend Wixiban had a run in with Ubean authorities. Although Neelix escaped arrest, Wixiban served a brutal term in an Ubean prison [Fair Trade]. Using his freighter, called Baxial [#125 Alice], Neelix was a trader in all kinds of goods including junk and debris, but prided himself on his skills as a jack-of-all-trades. Neelix helped Captain Janeway deal with the Kazon-Ogla shortly after Voyager's arrival in the Delta Quadrant, both to obtain an opportunity to rescue Kes, with whom he was romantically involved, and also in return for water which was in scant supply in that region. Subsequently Neelix and Kes persuaded Janeway to let them join the Voyager crew, in part because of his familiarity with the region of space. [Caretaker]. Neelix and Kes broke up around the time of the third-season episode [#52 Warlord]. Shortly after joining Voyager, Neelix appointed himself ship's cook and took it upon himself to convert the captain's private dining room adjoining the messhall on Deck 2 into a kitchen (galley) and food storage area. Neelix hoped thereby not only to reduce the crew's dependence on replicated food, but also to prove his value as a member of the ship [#5 Phage]. In his kitchen, Neelix prepared numerous delicacies with food grown in Kes' hydroponics bay, or ingredients gathered at planets visited by Voyager. Neelix also appointed himself ship's morale officer [#6 The Cloud]. Neelix performed diplomatic duties in helping the Voyager crew to deal with newly contacted civilisations, a task for which Janeway promised jokingly that he should be promoted to ambassador [#54 Macrocosm] but she later made good upon her promise with ambassadorial assignments [#72 Revulsion]. Neelix produced a daily shipwide informational audio-visual program, 'A Briefing With Neelix', which he distributed over the ship's internal communications system [#36 Investigations] and he later also produced another shipwide programme called 'Good Morning, Voyager' [Macrocosm]. Neelix often took part in monthly tactical exercises aboard the Voyager [Warlord]. Neelix enjoyed (or suffered) many adventures aboard USS Voyager, alone or in conjunction with the ship's crew. These adventures included:
  • On stardate 48532.4, Neelix was attacked and his lungs were surgically removed, and they were implanted into a Vidiian named Motura, who was suffering from the phage. When Janeway declined to order Motura's death to reclaim Neelix's lungs, Kes donated one of her lungs to be implanted into Neelix's body, thereby saving his life [Phage].
  • In 2372, Tuvok and Neelix were involved in a transporter accident that merged them at the molecular level, forming a new living being who adopted the name Tuvix. Neelix did not exist during the two weeks that Tuvix lived. [Tuvix].
  • Neelix encountered his old friend, Wixiban, in 2373 at the Nekrit Supply Depot space station. Desperate to obtain star charts of the Nekrit Expanse beyond the Depot so that he could guide Voyager, with the Depot being the limit of Neelix's knowledge, Neelix was briefly drawn back into the world of illicit trade, until he was injured when a cylinder of stolen warp plasma exploded. Janeway subsequently ordered Neelix to serve two weeks of deuterium maintenance duty as punishment for having stolen the plasma and engaging in illegal activities. [Fair Trade].
  • In 2374 Neelix was killed by a random energy discharge from a nebula, but was resurrected by Seven and the Doctor using Borg technology. As a result of this incident, Neelix's body will permanently contain Borg nanoprobes. Neelix was distressed to learn that the afterlife he believed in did not seem to exist, such as the Guiding Tree in the Great Forest with his dead family there to greet him. [Mortal Coil].
  • In 2375 Neelix briefly started to turn into a Mylean. See section TALAXIANS above.
  • Neelix was instrumental in helping a Talaxian colony living in an asteroid, and encountered by USS Voyager in late 2377, to set up a forcefield defence perimeter against a mining operation wanting to demolish the asteroid. Neelix met and fell in love with Dexa, one of the inhabitants. Janeway, realising Neelix's wishes, 'persuaded' him to accept the role of Starfleet's Ambassador to the Delta Quadrant, and Neelix left the Voyager crew in order to live with Dexa and her son Brax. It is known that Neelix maintained regular contact with USS Voyager until the ship's dramatic return to the Alpha Quadrant later that year.

Oxilon
Leader, with the title Council Regent, of a colony of about 500 Talaxians living within an asteroid encountered in late 2377 by USS Voyager. Oxilon seems to have been leader for some time. It is not known how many colonists set out from Talax or from other Talaxian colonies. Oxilon's policy of non-confrontation had preserved the lives of the colonists, although Dexa's husband lost his life in a fight with security forces on Phanos after he infringed their territorial restrictions. However, shortly before USS Voyager discovered the existence of the Talaxian asteroid colony, Commander Nocona's mining operation began demolishing the asteroid field to obtain valuable minerals and ordered the colonists to evacuate as he planned to demolish their asteroid which contains more than 30% of the field's ore. Nocona threatened to demolish the asteroid even if the Talaxians remained living there, which would of course kill them. Neelix persuaded Oxilon and the colonists to make a stand, and erect a forcefield perimeter to keep Nocona out (and any future hostiles).

[Homestead]

Palaxia
A young Talaxian girl, was a resident of Rinax when the metreon cascade was deployed. She survived but her flesh was horribly burnt in the many fires that the weapon caused. A team of rescuers, including Neelix, went to Rinax after the metreon cascade to evacuate survivors. Palaxia was returned to Talax where she slowly withered away over the next few weeks and died.

[Basics]
Paxim
An officer in the Talaxian Defence Force. Paxim leads a squadron of Talaxian fighter ships to assist Paris in successfully recapturing USS Voyager from a Kazon Nistrim boarding party, stardate approximately 50032 [Basics].

Wixiban
Also known as Wix. He is a long-time friend to Neelix. Wix spent one year in a Ubean prison for smuggling contraband. Neelix was also involved in this act, but escaped capture. While a prisoner in the Ubean prison, Wix was forced to eat worms to stay alive. He slept in a cell where vermin chewed on him all night, and he was punished terribly. Wix was forced to live aboard the Nekrit Supply Depot for three years after his ship was confiscated by the Station Manager called Bahrat. In his time on the station, Wix did not see another Talaxian until Neelix arrived as part of USS Voyager's crew in 2373. Wix conspired to smuggle illicit drugs aboard the station for delivery to Kolaati traders. During a failed attempt to deliver the drugs, Wix killed the alien called Sutok in self-defence using a Federation phaser from USS Voyager. Upon confessing his crimes to Bahrat, Wix and Neelix helped to capture the other members of the Kolaati although their leader Tosin was killed. For his efforts, Bahrat returned Wix's shuttlecraft and he was allowed to go on his way, reportedly back to a Talaxian colony. [Fair Trade]. (The station was located on the border of the Nekrit Expanse, but was not given a formal name in the episode. The station exterior was designed by the show's senior illlustrator Rick Sternbach.)
