TALAXIANS : Page 1

THE TALAXIAN STAR SYSTEM

Talax is an inhabited Class-M planet in the Delta Quadrant and homeworld to the Talaxian civilisation. Neelix, who joins USS Voyager in 2371 soon after the ship's arrival in the Delta Quadrant, is a Talaxian.

The Talax star system has three suns [#54 Macrocosm]. Talax has at least one moon, called Rinax [#15 Jetrel].

The Godo Mountain Range and the Axiana Lakes are two beautiful geographical features on Talax, and favourites of both Neelix and of Dexa, his likely future wife. [Homestead]. The person looking at the picture is Brax.

Rinax is a Class-M moon orbiting the planet Talax. The Rinax marshlands was the childhood home of Neelix. He and his family lived near the Rinax marshlands. There was a big forest behind the house in which he and his sister would play [#99 Once Upon A Time]. He recalled that the summers there were hot and humid, reaching 50 degrees Celsius and 90 percent humidity. Neelix also recalled serious lavafly infestations. Lavaflies are an insect life form indigenous to the marshlands of Rinax. Lavaflies can grow as large as six centimetres long. Talaxians living on Rinax find lavaflies extremely annoying and, according to Neelix: "Insect-repellant was a booming business." [#54 Macrocosm].

Access to space from Rinax was (or is still) provided by an orbital tether system that allowed carriage vehicles to ride an extremely long cable stretching from a station on the planet's surface to a station in synchronous orbit. [Rise]. The talchok is a small two-tailed vermin indigenous to Rinax, and talchoks have sharp claws and fangs [#15 Jetrel]. Talchok musk is a scent used by many Talaxian men. In 2374, Neelix wore it when he revisited the Mari homeworld in the hope of getting a date with Talli, a Mari market stall-holder he had met earlier [#78 Random Thoughts]. 'The Two-Tailed Talchok' was one of the two names jokingly suggested by Neelix to young Brax as a name for his model starship [#169 Homestead].

Paxau resort was a place on planet Talax where the rich and privileged went to relax and be pampered. Neelix created a holodeck program of the resort for use by the Voyager crew in 2373 [#52 Warlord]. See also PAXAU RESORT HOLOPROGRAM.

In the Paxau Resort holoprogram, with Paris and Kim looking on, Neelix enjoys a foot massage....

The fur-fly is a large insect indigenous to Talax. In early 2375, on the eve of Voyager's test-flight using the newly-installed quantum slipstream drive (adapted from Arturis' technology first seen in [#94 Hope and Fear]), Neelix offered chief engineer Torres the use of his good luck charm. [#100 Timeless]. 'The Fur-fly' was one of the two names jokingly suggested by Neelix to young Brax as a name for his model starship [#169 Homestead]. Neelix kept a dead and stuffed fur-fly in his ship, for good luck.

Talax's moon Rinax was the target of the metreon cascade weapon of mass destruction deployed by the Haakonian Order that forced the surrender of Talax in 2356 ending the Talaxian-Haakonian war which had lasted for almost a decade. The weapon was invented by the Haakonian scientist Dr Ma'Bor Jetrel.

TALAXIANS

Talaxians are a humanoid civilisation native to the planet Talax in the Delta Quadrant. For pictures showing their physical appearance see the section below Page 3: TALAXIANS FEATURED ON [STAR TREK: VOYAGER].

Neelix's species is recognised by the Vaadwaur male called Gedrin. [#127 Dragon's Teeth]
As a race, the Talaxians have existed for well over 892 years (calculating from 2376) although that long ago they were known as Talaxialzay (unsure of spelling; using phonetic spelling) to the species called Vaadwaur, a name which by 2376 was known to Neelix as the ancient tongue. At that time Talaxian folklore included stories about the Vaadwaur warning listeners to beware the persuasive tongue of the Vaadwaur who were in fact brutal tyrants of a conquered empire. For a list of some of these folktales see the section Page 4: TALAXIAN CULTURE AND SPIRITUAL BELIEFS. [#127 Dragon's Teeth].

The Talaxians surrendered to the Haakonian Order in 2356 after a decade-long war was ended by the deployment of the metreon cascade, a deadly weapon that killed over 300,000 Talaxians on one of Talax's moons, Rinax. At that time and for some time afterward, Talaxians who came in contact with the fallout from the metreon cascade suffered metremia, a deadly blood disease [#15 Jetrel].

The Talaxian respiratory system is directly linked to multiple points along the spinal column [#5 Phage].

Talaxians treat the Kazon as enemies. The colonists of Prema II assisted in re-capturing USS Voyager from Maje Culluh, leader of the Kazon-Nistrim, after he had commandeered the vessel and put the crew off onto the surface of the planet Hanon IV. [#42 and #43 Basics].

The inhabitants of Sector 492 have a Talaxian heritage. In 2376 Neelix obtained amber spice from them via a Kartelan freighter. [#130 The Voyager Conspiracy].

The Mylean race occupies a region of space near Talax. Neelix's great-grandfather was a Mylean, therefore one-eighth of Neelix's genetic material is Mylean. The great-grandfather was probably not the only Talaxian to marry a Mylean. In 2375 a group of Srivani scientists carried out, undetected at first, a series of brutal genetic experiments on Voyager's crew. As a result of hyperstimulating his DNA, Neelix started to turn into a Mylean. [#75 Scientific Method].
[#75 Scientific Method]

The Borg have assimilated a number of Talaxians. A small Talaxian freighter, containing a crew of 39, was taken in the Dalmine sector. The dense musculature of the Talaxians made them, in Seven's view, "excellent drones". The Borg Collective designates Talaxians as Species 218. [#74 The Raven].

Like many other races, Talaxians are targets of the Vidiians who seek members of compatible species in order to harvest their body tissue and organs for transplant into one or more phage-ridden Vidiian individuals. (The formal name for the Vidiian government is the Vidiian Sodality.) In 2371 USS Voyager's away team met a Talaxian prisoner when they were all held captive by Vidiians on the third planet in the Avery star system at their combined scientific installation and forced labour camp for prisoners. [#14 Faces].
