DAELEN, female of an unnamed species
Although Daelen's body is seen in [#88 Vis à Vis] the essence that is Daelen is not. Daelen is a humanoid female native to the Delta Quadrant. The name of her species is not stated on tv, nor is anything known about her species or about her except what can be inferred from the episode. It is not even certain that her species is a spacefaring or warp capable civilisation. At some time before or during 2373 Daelen met a DNA-thief who, judging from his modus operandi as seen in [Vis à Vis], exerted his charm upon her, secretly took a sample of her DNA to check for genome compatibility, researched her life, and then made violent physical contact with her to effect a genome transfer - Daelen took on the body of that the DNA-thief wore at the time (the name and appearance of it is unknown) while the DNA-thief took on Daelen's appearance for nearly a year. By the time the DNA-thief encountered Voyager, he had, wearing Daelen's appearance, met Steth and performed the same process on him, thereby taking on Steth's identity while Steth took on Daelen's. Trapped inside Daelen's body, Steth mounted a hunt for the body-thief that took about a year piloting a powerful starship in his search. Steth found his body but inside it was Tom Paris of USS Voyager - the DNA-thief had transferred again, and in fact the thief was now masquerading as Captain Janeway, which meant that Janeway had been transformed into Paris. With Paris' help, Steth was able to apprehend the DNA-thief just as he was about to flee by making a coaxial warp drive jump in a specially modified Voyager shuttlecraft. Voyager's Doctor restored everyone to their rightful bodies, except that the DNA-thief ended up in Daelen's body, to be handed over to the Benthan Guard. Steth informed Janeway that he would trace the DNA-thief's travels and restore his other victims to their correct bodies. He would have to start by finding the real Daelen.
