ARTURIS, of an unnamed species

Arturis, male of an unnamed species
Voyager's crew met Arturis, member of a species unnamed on screen but known to the Borg as Species 116, in 2374, in [#94 Hope and Fear]. He proved adept at languages including encryptions, and apparently helped Voyager decode the Starfleet message received at the end of [Message in a Bottle], which led Voyager to discover an empty "Starfleet" prototype vessel called "USS Dauntless" in which they could travel home to the Alpha Quadrant.

However, "USS Dauntless" was Arturis' own ship made up to look like a Starfleet vessel. Arturis hoped to punish Janeway and her crew by taking them with him to Borg space where he would all be assimilated as Borg drones. Arturis was seeking revenge for his people's assimilation by the Borg, which he blamed on Janeway's alliance with the Borg to defeat Species 8472. Arturis believed that if Janeway had not interefered, Species 8472 would have destroyed the Borg, saving his people from assimilation. The deception was unmasked in time to save Voyager's crew but Arturis ended up entering Borg space where he was assimilated. However, Voyager was for a while able to adapt his quantum slipstream drive for use with Voyager's engines.

Arturis reveals that his people have a skill with languages; he himself knows over 4,000 languages; he lets Janeway make the connection so that she asks him how he is with computational languages; when he says it is all the same to him, she asks him to try and decrypt the Starfleet message, which is what Arturis wants to do

Arturis decrypts the Starfleet message, except for one datablock which he claims has deteriorated beyond recovery; in reality he has substituted a false message

the data "decrypted" includes a set of co-ordinates (shown as a column of figures)

There are diagrams, schematics and pictures of Arturis' ship, as "USS Dauntless" and its true appearance, plus a behind-the-scenes article detailing the production of [Hope and Fear] at [HOPE AND FEAR] INDEX.
