ASSAN'S SHIP : page 2

The design of Assan's ship is an integrated single hull design, with the exterior being a series of small light-grey coloured plates following the curved contours of the ship's infrastructure. The vessel has a streamlined shape when viewed in profile, ideal for a racing vessel, which also gives it the appearance of a military vessel, and if its appearance intimidates other competitors so much the better as far as Assan is concerned. It is possible that the configuration and design are based upon Assan's fighter ship and that its systems, such as the strong shields, is also similar.

The forward section of the ship is relatively wide, with the central sectuon curved inward anddownward in which an illuminated blue port is set. The two-man cockpit is protected by protruding ledges to port and starboard, and is positioned very close to the bow of the ship which gives good all-round vision through the bubble-shaped translucent panels. This direct vision is an important addition to the ship's sensors in sighting race competitors and in carrying out tight maneuvers among them. Having the cockpit so far forward within the ship allows Assan to better judge visually his ship's proximity to other vessels and race obstacles, and he uses this to advantage in carrying out some of his potentially dangerous maneuvers.

A number of exposed systems are bult onto the surface plates of the ship. These are located around and behind the raised cockpit area. A series of downwardly angled pipes feed out of the sides of the cockpit walls, while twin exhausts run along the port and starboard sides of the ship's interior and terminate in wider venturi nozzles.

Located either side of the narrow main hull there are stubby backwardly curved port an starboard wings. These are painted with a narrow purple band and a five-sided design which is Assan's logo - these features provide visual identification for competitors and spectators in visual view.

The underside of Assan's ship is flat and incorporates a series of raised units directly underneath the cockpit, terminating before the curved twin fuselage forming the stern of the ship which house the impulse engines in their tails. The upper surface of the twin fuselage features an angled panel at the end of the tails which glows with the same blue colour as the exhaust ports which are built into the underside of the stern. This is secured by a series of ribbed supporting connecting to the underside plates of the fins.

The light-level in the interior of Assan's cockpit is kept low. The screenshot shows the co-pilot and Assan in their seats ready for the start of the race. Behind them can be seen the arch of what is probably the entrance door to the cockpit. Assan's seat seems to be positioned slightly further forward than that of his co-pilot.
