THE NEKRIT SUPPLY DEPOT

Bahrat, the Station Manager, (who is always watching you), would not furnish me with stills taken from his surveillance monitors,
so instead I provide screenshots from [#55 Fair Trade].

THE NEKRIT SUPPLY DEPOT

The Depot is situated near to the border of the of the Nekrit Expanse, i.e. the border which is the one nearer Talax, the Ocampa homeworld, and the side furthest from the Alpha Quadrant.

The Nekrit Expanse is a vast region of space, thousands of light-years wide, in the Delta Quadrant. The Nekrit Expanse is uncharted as the region is too unstable to chart although co-ordinate charts for the local mining colonies are available from a map dealer based at the Depot. The Nekrit Expanse is populated by an unknown form of interstellar dust clouds and plasma storms. The Depot serves mining and trading ships.

In 2373, USS Voyager entered the Nekrit Expanse, and stayed for a few days at the Depot in order to obtain essential supplies such as pergium and magnetic spindle bearings. Despite the efforts of Bahrat, Station Manager, and his security guards to police the Depot and enforce its regulations, the Depot is the location of many dubious transactions, and a meeting place for furtive and ominous alien beings. During Voyager's visit one of its crew, Neelix, was caught up in an incident involving his old friend fellow-Talaxian Wixiban (or Wix) and a matter of murder. The incident, together with descriptions of the individuals involved, species known and unknown, is described below.
USS Voyager holds position within transporter range of the Nekrit Supply Depot

The station was not given a formal name in the episode. The name "Nekrit Supply Depot" comes from Encyclopaedia and other canon sources.

The Depot is constructed from a series of interconnecting hexagonal and circular structures which are smooth and light-grey in appearance. Interlocking plates form the various sections which are connected at right angles to the main central hull. The design is modular indicating that more units can be added if desired should, for instance, thriving business demand more accommodation. Due to the station's distance from other trading outposts, visitors are likely to spend a period of time there and therefore the station provides a quantity of storage space for cargo and refreshment facilities in the form of a tavern. However, many visitors stay aboard their own vessel, as is the case with USS Voyager which, during its stay in 2373, held position within transporter range of the Depot. It is not uncommon for traders to travel between the Depot and each other's ships in the conduct of their business, much of which is carried out by barter. The Depot's structure is designed to allow space vessels to dock directly into the outer sections of the station, but the outer docking ports are rarely used, a fact which is exploited by those trading in illicit goods who use those places in which to conduct trade meetings.

At the time of USS Voyager's visit to the Depot and for at least 3 years before that, Bahrat is/was the Station Manager. He is very intent on maintaining law and order on his station, and imposes heavy punishments on those found guilty of criminal activity. Punishment ranges from fines to imprisonment in a cryostatic chamber. The punishments for murder and for illicit drug trafficking are both 50 years in cryostatic suspension, a kind of suspended animation. Bahrat also requires 20% commission for trading on his station, and requires approaching visitors to agree to these conditions before giving them permission to arrive. More about Bahrat, and his other trading conditions, are given in BAHRAT AND HIS OFFICE.

After leaving the Depot, Voyager then travelled through the Nekrit Expanse on course for the Alpha Quadrant. Inside the Nekrit Expanse, beyond the Depot, Voyager's discoveries included the Sakari species [#58 Blood Fever], and also a disabled Borg ship and the self-styled New Hope Colony of former Borg drones no longer linked to the Borg Collective [#59 Unity].
