2. OTHER HOLOCHARACTERS

TrevisTrevis is a walking tree - his skin is bark and he has some leaves growing out of it. The name is pronounced "tree-vis". Flotter and Trevis meet and become friends in the chapter Flotter and the Tree Monster. TOSTFF refers to Trevis as representing the element earth ("earth-elemental Trevis"), and this seems the logical surmise since the main holocharacters represent elements (Flotter represents water), although, for instance, characters representing the elements air and plasma are not seen on tv. It is certainly indicated in the holoprogram that Trevis represents all the trees in the Forest of Forever, as Flotter complains that his roots (i.e. all tree roots) drain the Forest's moisture.

(The UK video's inside sleeve giving the pronunciation of "Trevis" made me recall that the bread brand which sells well in Britain called Hovis was named for the contraction of 'hominum vis', such phraseological contraction being termed 'portmanteau' as in Treknology for 'Trek technology'. 'hominum vis' was chosen by its original manufacturers because in Latin it means 'strength of men', though actually in ancient Rome circa 1st century BC 'vis', strength or force, came to be associated more with force of the bad kind i.e. political violence; for instance, one could be tried on the capital charge of 'vis'. Anyway, history rambling aside, I am sure that the 'vis' aspect of Trevis' name is purely coincidental, but for anyone who knows any Latin it makes the choice of "Trevis" particularly apt.)

Another character is Stinger, mentioned by Janeway to Neelix who has not heard of the character before. This character is not seen on tv.

The Ogre of Fire manifests himself as a deep, booming, menacing voice and as a huge fireball. TOSTFF says that the fireball has a face on it. The Ogre of Fire is seen in the chapter Flotter, Trevis and the Ogre of Fire, in which the Ogre of Fire attacks Flotter, causing him to evaporate, and burns down the Forest of Forever.
