6. HOW OLD IS THE HOLOPROGRAM?The holoprogram has been in existence since at least Janeway's childhood. (Although Janeway's birthday is given in [Star Trek Voyager], 20th May, in [#76 and #77 Year Of Hell], Janeway's birth year is not given in [Star Trek Voyager] nor in canon sources. It is given in 'Pathways', a [Star Trek Voyager] novel by Jeri Taylor one of the creators of [Star Trek Voyager].) Janeway tells Neelix: "Did I ever tell you about the time I flooded this entire Forest? I was six years old. Flotter claimed we were in for a dry spell, so I came up with the obvious solution - why not just divert the river. This entire Forest was a swamp by the time we were done, at which point Stinger...." (This also indicates that holotechnology was well advanced by the mid-2360s. The adventures of the crew of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D are set in the mid-2360s, depicted in [TNG] onwards. The holodeck was first introduced to Star Trek in [TNG]'s opening story [TNG: Encounter At Farpoint].) Samantha Wildman also enjoyed them as a child. When she revisits the holoprogram with Naomi, she and Flotter have an affectionate reunion: Flotter: "Samantha?"
