SPIRIT FOLK Episode 137 Part D
 | In Sullivan's Pub, Kim and Paris are working on the holodeck controls. |
 | Suddenly the mob bursts in. People hurl the twine nets over them and tries to haul them away.
Paris struggles. "Seamus! Let us explain! You're making a mistake!"
Seamus: "The only mistake we made was letting you into Fair Haven." |
 | Milo and Seamus see the computer panel. "What's that?!" |
 | Seamus: "Shoot it!"
Paris: "No, no, wait! That's a delicate piece of technoloy-" As he says "technology", Milo fires. |
 | The panel explodes where it is hit.
Computer: "Holodeck controls and safety protocols are offline."
Seamus: "A voice from the other world!"
Computer: "Emergency overrides are malfunctioning."
Milo, frightened of the strange voice, fires again at the panel. |
 | Paris yells: "Computer, freeze program!"
Computer: "62% compliance." Because of this, only some of the characters freeze.
In the confusion, Paris and Kim manage to flee the pub.
Seamus: "They're getting away!"
The townsfolk give chase. |
 | Paris yells: "Computer, exit!"
The holodeck doors materialise. Kim and Paris race toward them. |
 | But the doors fritz and then vanish. There is no escape. The howling mob catches up with them - Paris and Kim are captured! |
 | Voyager in space. |

 | The senior staff are holding a council of war in the briefing room following Paris' and Kim's capture on the holodeck.
Janeway: "Gunfire?"
Chakotay: "Two shots directly at the primary controls. We can't deactivate the program or get the safeties back online."
Janeway: "Where are Tom and Harry now?"
Torres: "St Mary's." To the Doctor: "Looks like some of your parishioners are holding them captive."
Neelix: "We can't blame them for being frightened. They must think we're some kind of sorcerers."
Chakotay: "Well, we could use a little magic right now because that's about the only way we're going to get our people back."
Janeway: "Transporters?"
Chakotay: "Too many stray photons. We can't get a lock."
Seven: "We should enter the holodeck with a security team and take them by force."
Tuvok: "May I remind you that the holocharacters have weapons as well. We'd be risking armed conflict."
Torres: "Well, then, let's just pull the plug, cut power to the hologrid."
Neelix: "That would purge the program from our database."
Torres: "Exactly."
Neelix: "But we'd lose Fair Haven and all its people."
Seven: "They're not people. They're holograms."
Janeway: "And they weren't programmed to be violent. I don't believe they'd harm anyone."
Torres: "You can't be certain."
Janeway: "Well, I am certain, and I'd like to find a less drastic solution."
Torres: "With all due respect, Captain, Michael can be reprogrammed. Tom and Harry can't."
Janeway: "One problem at a time, B'Elanna. The people of Fair Haven may not be real but the feelings toward them are. I won't destroy these relationships if we can find another way. Now. If we could attach transport enhancers onto Tom and Harry, would that be enough to cut through the interference?"
Tuvok: "I believe so."
Janeway: "Good. Then we just need to get someone close to them. Doctor."
Doctor: "A few words of inspiration should get me within reach."
Seven: "I suggest you use your mobile emitter. It'll isolate you from the malfunctions."
Janeway: "Good idea. Stand by to cut power to the hologrid in case things get out of hand."
Torres: "Aye, Captain."
Janeway to the Doctor: "In the meantime, I believe your flock needs tending." |
 | In St Mary's, the townsfolk have bound Paris and Kim. Someone draws a boundary chalk line around them. |
 | Meanwhile Seamus, holding aloft the book 'Faerie Magick' calls out an incantation, first in Latin: "Ex labis caelestium sanctorum super ad aures atrorum larvarum mentientium!", then he chants the translation: "From the lips of the heavenly saints above, to the ears of the dark spirits, may your spectral forms be cast back to the Other World!" |
 | People watch Paris and Kim intently. But nothing happens. |
 | Seamus repeats: "Back to the Other World!" Still nothing happens. "There must be some trick to these incantations." |
 | Milo shows Seamus Kim's and Paris' toolbox: "What do you make of this, Seamus?"
Kim: "Maybe we should just tell them the truth!"
Paris: "Oh good idea, Harry. Want to tell them they're only holograms or should I?" |
 | Seamus brandishes a PADD in front of them. "I see you left your box of charms at Sullivan's. I believe this is the talisman you used on Maggie?" |
 | He addresses the angry townsfolk. "Maybe we should turn them into cows!"
The people roar their approval. |
 | Paris: "Look, there's been a misunderstanding! We are not spirit folk."
Milo chuckles. "I think we've heard enough of your lies, Tommy boy. I say we tie them up to the lamp post in the square and show them how spirit folk were dealt with in the olden days."
Again the crowd shouts out approval. |
 | Sullivan intervenes angrily. "Leave them alone. It's bad enough you've got them trussed up like Christmas turkeys. There's no need for foolish threats!" |
 | Milo: "Better watch who's side you're on. You're not above suspicion yourself!"
Sullivan: "Oh, we're going to start turning on one another now, is that it!"
Milo: "We are, if you're after choosing them over your own people!"
 |
 | The church doors open and the Doctor enters. He rebukes them all in a loud voice: "Sinners!" He approaches Paris and Kim. "Sinners, all of you. You have the audacity to turn a house of worship into a prison?! This is where we gather to pledge our love for our fellow man, not condemnation! You should all be ashamed of yourselves!" |
 | But the townsfolk are unimpressed.
Seamus: "Quite a rousing sermon, Father. But I'm afraid you're not going to find too many takers tonight.
Milo: "Not after your little vanishing act. It seems Grace Declan saw you disappear into thin air on Sunday."
Seamus: "I'd say the town's a wee bit unholy!" One of Seamus' supporters slams the church door closed, shutting off that escape route. "You're in league with them, aren't you?" Seamus orders the townsfolk: "Tie him up with the others!"
The Doctor protests as he is manhandled. "Listen to yourselves. You're letting confusion and fear get the best of you." He decides it is time to leave the holoprogram. "Doctor to Janeway." |
 | Seamus searches the Doctor and finds a transport enhancer. "What's this?"
Doctor, trying to contact Janeway: "Fire and brimstone don't seem to be working." But he is not transferred out of the holoprogram. |
 | His captors discover a strange object on the Doctor's arm that they do not recognise. (It is his mobile emitter.) Milo calls out: "Look here, Seamus - another talisman." |
 | Seamus: "Quick, get it off of him." |
Milo grabs it and the Doctor fritzes. They are stunned at the sight of him partly dematerialising and materialising again. If they were not certain before that he is one of the spirit folk, they are sure now!
