FAIR HAVEN
Episode 131
Part C

USS Voyager.

In sickbay, the Doctor and Paris are giving hypospray injections to the crew against the radiation.
The Doctor injects a crewmember. audio: hypospray injectionhypospray injection He tells her: "If you experience any dizziness, report to sickbay immediately." She nods and leaves.
Janeway enters. audio: standard doorsstandard doors She is feeling very cheerful this morning and it shows.

Janeway, very cheerful: "Good morning, gentlemen."
Doctor: "I believe it's afternoon. Oversleep?"
Janeway: "Holodeck."
Paris: "Fair Haven?"
Janeway: "'Welcome Weary Traveller'."
Doctor: "Even I have to admit, Mr Paris' latest effort is quite a tour de force."
Janeway: "Oo, high praise from a hologram."

Paris: "Oh I was thinking, Captain, now that we've got this open-door policy maybe I could expand Fair Haven into holodeck 2. It'd give me some room to create the sea coast."
Janeway: "By all means."

Doctor: "Speaking of revisions, I was hoping I could give my character a more active role. In the period you've created the village priest was the most prominent member of the community, held in the highest regard."
Paris: "That's a great idea, Doc. We could send Father Mulligan on a retreat to a nearby monastery where he takes a vow of silence and never speaks again."

At this point, without a word, Janeway escorts Paris out of sickbay.

Disgruntled, the Doctor calls after him: "Try it and you'll be saying Hail Marys until St Patrick's Day."

Paris and Janeway, still chuckling from their en route chat, enter the bridge and take up their respective posts.
Janeway: "Time?"
Tuvok, who is seated at his console, reports: "30 seconds."
Janeway: "Let's see it."

The approaching wavefront appears on the main viewscreen.
Janeway makes a shipwide broadcast via comms: "All hands, this is the Captain. Secure your stations and brace for impact."

The storm hits and gives them a rough moment as they are shaken by the turbulence.
Tuvok reports: "We've cleared the leading edge. Turbulence is decreasing. Shields are holding."

Janeway: "Damage?"
Kim: "We have a ruptured plasma conduit, Deck 9. "
Janeway: "Send a repair team. Maintain Yellow Alert. Let's hope that was the worst of it."

Janeway: "Captain's Personal Log. It's been 10 hours since the storm hit. We estimate another three days before we're clear of it. The crew's in good spirits and many of them have taken the opportunity to visit Fair Haven. I met an interesting man there and for a while I almost forgot he was a hologram. We weren't exactly compatible but then again Mr Paris didn't program him to my specifications."

Janeway walks along a corridor, on a personal mission.

She activates the controls of Voyager's holographic research lab.

Inside the lab, she starts working the controls of the computer console.

Janeway: "Computer, display Fair Haven character Michael Sullivan."

The hologram materialises, in an inactive state.

Janeway considers what changes she wants to make to the Sullivan holoprogram. "Adjust his parameters to the following specifications. Give him the education of a 19th century third year student at Trinity College."
Computer: "Modification complete."

Janeway goes up close to the hologram. "Now, access the character's interactive subroutines. Make him more provocative."
Computer: "Specify."
Janeway: "Give him a more complicated personality."
Computer: "Specify."
Janeway is irritated by the computer's inability to understand her. She is forced to consider what she means and to specify it: "More outspoken, more confident, not so reserved. And make him more curious about the world around him."
Computer: "Modification complete."

Janeway: "Good. Now, increase the character's height by," she pauses while she considers, "three centimetres."

The hologram dematerialises and then rematerialises three centimetres taller.

Janeway: "Remove the facial hair." The computer does so and Sullivan appears clean-shaven.

"No, no I don't like that. Put some back, about two days' growth." The computer does so. "Better."

Janeway: "And one more thing. Access his interpersonal subroutines, familial characters. Delete the wife."
Computer: "Modification complete."

Janeway steps right up close to the hologram. "Pleased to meet you, Mr Sullivan."
