As described earlier, Deanna was betrothed to Wyatt Miller through the Betazoid custom of genetic bonding when they were both children. Watt's father Steven had been a close friend of the late Ian Andrew Troi. Having grown up on Betazed, Wyatt became a physician. Wyatt had been haunted all his life by the image of a woman who he had thought was Deanna, but he later learned the mysterious woman was a Tarellian named Ariana. He chose not to marry Troi so that he could join the Tarellians in search for a cure to the Tarellian plague, a virus which infected the last members of the Tarellian people. [TNG: Haven].
In an alternative quantum reality visited by Worf (the Enterprise's chief security officer) in 2370, Troi and Worf were married. In another quantum reality, the two were married and had two children. It was perhaps the knowledge that the two of them had a romantic relationship in other quantum universes that led Worf to pursue such a relationship in his own universe, [TNG: Parallels]. Although Worf and Deanna were close for a time, it did not go far and ended upon Worf's transfer to Deep Space 9 in 2372.
Deanna, being only half-Betazoid and having a continuing affection for Will Riker, looks like being able to avoid 'the phase'. That is the stage in the life-cycle of a Betazoid female during which she becomes fully sexual, which normally occurs at midlife. An unmarried Betazoid woman in the phase is expected by her culture to focus her sexual energy on one particular man, who will normally become her husband. It is common for a Betazoid female to experience a sex drive of quadrupled intensity during the phase. Deanna's mother Lwaxana entered the phase in 2365, and as a result sought, in succession, Jean-Luc Picard and Will Riker as potential husbands, [TNG: Manhunt].
As described above, and as depicted in [Star Trek IX: Insurrection], Deanna and Riker rekindled their romantic relationship. They had always remained close and Deanna still sometimes referred privately to him as her "Imzadi", but they had remained just friends until the anti-aging effects of the Ba'ku planet, located in the anomalous region of space nicknamed 'the Briar Patch', prompted them to get back together.
When her friend Reg Barclay accosts her on a vacation in early 2377, in [#152 Inside Man], Deanna is waiting for Riker to join her and the couple later invite Barclay to dinner to meet someone they hope he will like - this time a real teacher, not like his previous girlfriend Leosa who had lied about herself in order to steal Starfleet secrets.
In 2378, Deanna and Will Riker got married. They decided to have one ceremony on Earth in Alaska, where Riker was born, and one on Betazed. They are seen at their Earth reception in [Star Trek X: Nemesis].

But on their way to Deanna's homeworld, the Enterprise was ordered by Admiral Kathryn Janeway to a rendezvous with Shinzon in Romulan space.

Shinzon's secret evil confrontation with Picard led to, among other things, Shinzon's mental assault on Deanna which she later turned back on him in order to locate his ship. Deanna mourned the loss of her close friend Data after he sacrificed his life to save Picard and the Enterprise which also resulted in the destruction of Shinzon and his ship. Following this, Captain Riker took command of the Federation Starship the USS Titan, and Deanna planned to join him as the Ship's Counsellor.

Chocolate, an Earth confection made from roasted and ground cacao beans, is one of Deanna's great passions. She prefers real chocolate to the dietetic substitutes provided by the ship's replicators, [TNG: The Price]. Troi never met a chocolate she didn't like, [TNG: The Game]. Ktarian chocolate puff, a confection made with seventeen varieties of chocolate, was Deanna Troi's favorite dessert, [TNG: Liaisons]. (In early 2377, the Doctor, while his program is hidden within Seven's body, enjoys his corporeal manifestation by over-indulging in an entire cheesecake and three servings of Ktarian chocolate puffs, [#153 Body And Soul].) When Deanna visits Reg Barclay in his apartment on Earth in 2376 he offers her chocolate ice cream, though she asks for just one scoop as she is watching her figure (see screenshot), and does not finish it as Barclay's pet cat (named Neelix after Voyager's Talaxian crewman) starts on it, [#130 Pathfinder]. Reg Barclay seeks her out during a beach vacation on Earth in early 2377, he brings her a chocolate passion punch, [#152 Inside Man].

Plexing is the Betazoid relaxation technique in which one gently taps a nerve behind one's ear, using the index and middle fingers. Plexing stimulates a nerve cluster behind the carotid artery, causing the release of natural endorphins. Deanna taught the technique to Reginald Barclay in an effort to help him overcome his fear of being transported, [TNG: Realm of Fear]. Deanna used the technique to try to calm herself in subsequent episodes, including [TNG: Timescape].
Majel Barrett (pictured right), who plays Lwaxana Troi, was married to Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. She also played Number One in the first Star Trek pilot, [TOS: The Cage], as well as Nurse Christine Chapel throughout [TOS]. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry also lent her voice to the LCARS computer, the Companion in [TOS: Metamorphosis], and the Beta 5 computer in [TOS: Assignment: Earth]. Lwaxana Troi's first appearance was in [TNG: Season 1: Haven]. She also appeared in [DS9: The Forsaken]. She can be considered to be the First Lady of Star Trek, and has appeared in every series except [Enterprise], and has appeared in and/or been heard in more Star Trek stories than any other actor or actress.
