CONTINUING MISSIONS

After this, Deanna transferred to the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E in 2372. In early 2373, depicted in [Star Trek VIII: First Contact], she contributed to the successful restoration of the timeline in which Zefram Cochrane carried out his pioneering warp flight. She helped minimise 24th century involvement and thus potential timeline contamination by acting as ground flight controller of Cochrane's ship, the Phoenix, after the original crew had been killed by time-travelling Borg. As a result, she, along with many other Enterprise-E crew, has met the legendary Zefram Cochrane and was present at Earth's official First Contact between Humankind and Vulcans, which was to lead eventually to Starfleet's exploration of deep space and the establishment of the United Federation Of Planets.

Two years later, depicted in [Star Trek IX: Insurrection], she joined the other senior officers in following Jean-Luc Picard when he acted to uphold the principles of the Prime Directive by revolting against an unjust policy. The Federation and the Son'a race planned to evacuate the Ba'ku from their homeworld aboard a ship containing a holographic replica of the Ba'ku village, and then harness the rejuvenating effects of their planet, although the procedure would render the planet uninhabitable. Picard and his loyal officers started to evacuate the Ba'ku to safety on the planet itself, and ended up thwarting the Son'a plan which was not entirely as it seemed. During this mission the planet's 'fountain of youth' properties rekindled Deanna's romantic relationship with Will Riker. They had always remained close and Deanna still sometimes referred privately to him as her "Imzadi", but they had remained just friends until the planet's anti-aging effects prompted them to get back together.
