[#54 Macrovirus]

Janeway and Neelix return in a shuttlecraft from a trade mission with the Tak Tak species to discover USS Voyager adrift with major systems failures and the crew apparently missing. As they move round the ship trying to discover what happened, they hear a voice and trace it to the Wildmans' private quarters. Janeway bursts into the room with phaser at the ready, followed by Neelix. But the room is empty. A portable computer is on displaying a recording of Neelix saying: "....Ensign Kaplan, she's going to be sharing-"
Janeway: "Here's our com. signal - your 'Good Morning, Voyager'.
Neelix: "Ensign Wildman is one of my most dedicated viewers. According to the time index she activated this programme approximately 11 hours ago."
Janeway: "Why's it still running?"
Neelix: "The programme is set for automatic playback until it's turned off." He looks round the room. There are baby's toys on the floor. "The baby's missing too."
Janeway scans a meal on the table using her tricorder: "According to the protein decay I'd say Ensign Wildman replicated this 11 hours ago. When we get to the bridge they might tell us whether or not-"
A strange buzzing sound draws them out of the quarters and into the corridor again.

Summoned by Ensign Wildman to the Wildman quarters, Neelix helps put Naomi to bed. He searches the places she indicates to check there are no monsters and then lifts her into bed. Neelix tells Naomi that he thinks about the Great Forest whenever he is afraid - Talaxians believe that they will all go to the Great Forest someday. He tells her that it is a beautiful forest filled with sunlight and all the people who ever loved him are gathered there to watch over and protect him while he sleeps.

[#99 Once Upon A Time]

Just before bedtime, Naomi speaks to her mother, Ensign Samantha Wildman, who is aboard the Delta Flyer on an away mission along with Paris and Tuvok. Naomi then goes to bed and Samantha tells Neelix what she has refrained from telling Naomi: the Delta Flyer has been badly damaged by an ion storm. Neelix, as Naomi's godfather, is looking after her while her mother is away. The away team take the Delta Flyer to a planetoid to try and escape another ion storm but they crash there, ending up inside an intact Delta Flyer but buried beneath the rock surface in a cavern filled with lethal fluorine gas. Samantha is severely injured, with a punctured lung and internal bleeding. Voyager tracks their distress call, but there is another ion storm is blocking their path. As the crew get busy with preparations to search the planetoid for the away team, Neelix takes charge of Naomi. At a senior staff meeting Janeway gives him the mission of keeping Naomi occupied and unaware of her mother's predicament for the time being. He does so. The prospect of telling Naomi that her mother is lost brings back grim memories for Neelix, who lost all his family in the Metreon Cascade, a weapon of mass destruction unleashed by the Talaxians' enemies the Haakonians (described in [#15 Jetrel]). Neelix wishes to avoid telling Naomi because he hopes they will find her mother safe and well, and wants to save Naomi the pain of bereavement, in particular the feeling that he himself has suffered, that of being all alone. As part of the distraction, he takes her to the holodeck to enjoy the children's series of educational holostories, 'The Adventures Of Flotter'. During one of the stories, 'Flotter, Trevis and the Ogre of Fire', Flotter evaporates and the idyllic, enchanted Forest of Forever suffers widespread devastation from fire. Neelix gets Kim to replicate a Flotter doll. She says, "Thanks, but that's not really Flotter," and tells him of her research into evaporation - she plans to reliquify Flotter. After seeing Naomi to bed, a troubled Neelix confides his anxiety to an image he calls up on the Wildman's portable computer of his dead favourite sister Alixia.

Neelix looks into Naomi's bedroom;
behind him most of the living room can be seen, and also the entrance to, presumably, Samantha's bedroom

The entrance which presumably leads to Samantha's room entrance might also lead to the bathroom although we do not know if the Wildmans have their own bathroom or perhaps just a sonic shower cubicle. They might just have a pull-out sink which would no doubt be of the same design as Chakotay's as seen in [#75 Scientific Method] and Tuvok's as seen in [#76 and #77 Year Of Hell] and [#150 Repression]. But the spaciousness of the Wildman quarters seems to suggest that they would have a reasonable area for ablutions. That would seem to be generous, considering that Samantha is only an ensign, with allowances made for the fact that she has a child to look after (on the basis that children need plenty of space). Ensign Vorik, for instance, has a small room which he shares with another crewmember, and they sleep in a bunk, as indicated in [#58 Blood Fever].
