TOM AND B'ELANNA'S COURTSHIP, WEDDING & JUST MARRIED
: PRELUDE

The prelude to the courting, and indeed an aspect of the courting itself, was verbal sparring.

[#46 The Swarm]

While in a shuttlecraft looking for an energy signature that was detected earlier by Voyager, Tom and B'Elanna pass the time in conversation. Paris says that for the last two hours Torres has been showing signs of wanting to return to Voyager and goads her that it is because of Ensign Freddy Bristow. Torres says Bristow has a crush on her and has been making any excuse to hang around Engineering and around her. Paris teases her that Bristow is tall and good looking. Torres says that she played him one game of Parisses' Squares and crushed him. audio clip

Paris: "Well, if you ever have a free evening, I have a holodeck program you might enjoy - sailing on Lake Como."
Torres: "I'd rather take my chance with Freddy Bristow."

The following screenshots are from [#56 Alter Ego].

Tom and B'Elanna, like all the crew on Voyager, were guests at the luau which was arranged by Neelix and held on stardate 50460. As Tom Paris and B'Elanna Torres make their way to the holodeck and the luau:

These pictures show the costumes worn by Tom and B'Elanna.

Paris: "Lieutenant! You look absolutely-"
Torres: "Tropical?"
Paris, appreciatively looking her up and down: "More along the lines of smashing."
Torres: "Thanks."
Paris: "Of course, nothing can quite measure up with this shirt. This is a re-creation of a 1962 Big Daddy-O Surf Special, an American classic."
Torres: "I'd say you put just a little bit too much thought into that."
Paris: "Now that's where you're wrong."

At the luau, Paris collects drinks for himself and Torres. When Paris returns to the place where Torres is standing, with Vorik nearby, Paris hands her a drink Torres says: "Thanks. I am starving."
Paris: "Oh, Me too. Let's find a spot. This place is filling up fast."
Vorik: "I have already taken the liberty of reserving a table, Lieutenant, with a view of the lakeside. You did express a fondness for that particular vista."
Torres: "I did?"
Vorik: "Five days ago in a conversation we had in engineering regarding holodeck programs."
Torres: "I guess maybe I did."
Paris: "Good memory!"
Vorik: "Of course."
Torres: "Well then, Ensign, let's go."
And they leave Paris behind, who watches them go.

The significance of Vorik's action is seen later, in [#58 Blood Fever], when he proposes the Vulcan equivalent of marriage to her.
