The Doctor and Suder are monitoring Seska and Culluh from sickbay and so are warned when they order a deck-by-deck search of all the Jefferies tubes and conduits to find any Voyager crewmember still on board. Suder asks the Doctor if he has a portable thoron generator. The Doctor says yes of course: he uses it to treat radiation burns. Suder says "It's an old Maquis trick. Thoron particles neutralise tricorder sensors." Just as Suder returns to the Jefferies tube, the Doctor tells him, "Mr Suder, we need some weapons if we're going to retake the ship."
	Suder arrives back in sickbay in a distressed state - he has brought the body of a Kazon he has had to kill. The Doctor wants to give Suder 5 cc's of improvoline to calm him down. Suder refuses it and tries instead to use the meditation exercises Tuvok taught him. The Doctor hides the body in a stasis drawer.
	When Suder arrives back in sickbay he finds no sign of the Doctor and tries to activate him (Seska phasered the holocontrols). This activates an automatic message from the Doctor: "Mr Suder, if you are hearing this you have just unsuccessfully attempted to access the emergency medical program. I have programmed this message to play in the event that I have been disabled. This means of course that the fate of Voyager now depends solely on you."

The Doctor continues: "I can imagine how you must feel at this moment. I want you to know you have my full confidence. You have already shown great couage and dedication to your crew. I have left an additional message for Captain Janeway and Lt Tuvok noting your heroism in case I am irretrievable. You know what you have to do and when to do it, and I know that with our fate in your hands we will prevail. Good luck, Mr Suder."

	Suder kills all the Kazon in engineering.
	As Suder reaches for the button to disable the backup phaser couplings, one of the downed Kazon, who is not yet dead, fires at him.
	In his last moment of life Suder reaches the button.
	When the backup phasers are activated, they overload. On the bridge, everyone is knocked out and/or killed or injured when the consoles explode. Seska is fatally injured and dies in the ready room beside her baby. When a Kazon reports that the ship is being boarded, Culluh takes the baby and gives the order to abandon ship.
	Paris and a Talaxian boarding party led by Commander Paxim beam onto the bridge.
	Tuvok: "I offer you a Vulcan prayer, Mr Suder. May your death bring you the peace you never found in life."
