![]() Janeway looks at a photograph of Mark with her setter named Molly, [#18 Elogium] | Janeway likes dogs. Janeway once visited an animal shelter on Taris Seti IV and adopted an Irish setter, whom she called Molly [#157 Shattered]. Once when Janeway had to clean a cut on her dog's leg (presumably Molly though Janeway may have had pets before Molly), she needed to create a little diversion so that the dog would not be upset by it. Molly was left in the care of Mark Johnson when Janeway disappeared in 2371 on a mission into the Badlands [#1 and #2 Caretaker]. Molly had a litter of puppies shortly thereafter, and Mark wrote to Janeway that he gave them all away to good homes [Season 4: Hunters]. |
Janeway is an American dress size 4 [#106 Bride Of Chaotica!].

Janeway has the habit of standing with her hands on her hips.
In [#54 Macrocosm] she and Neelix went on a diplomatic mission to meet the Tak Tak, a species which communicates using complex body language. It turned out that when she put her hands on her hips it was the grossest insult possible, requiring all of Neelix's diplomatic skill to rectify. |

[#20 The 37's]
Janeway has studied American Sign Language, as mentioned to Neelix in 2373 in [#54 Macrocosm]. images showing American Sign Language, 158Kb
| She also has (seen in one episode only) the habit of fiddling with her combadge when about to announce an unpopular decision [#109 Dark Frontier, Part One]. It is a trait that Chakotay says he has noticed before. | ![]() |
One of Janeway's pet hates is time travel. She says that time travel gives her headaches. In 2373, while on Earth in 1996: "Time travel: ever since my first day in the job as a Starfleet Captain I swore I'm never let myself get caught in one of these god-forsaken paradoxes. The future is the past, the past is the future. It all gives me a headache." She also mentions the difficulty she has with time travel at the end of [#100 Timeless]: "My advice in making sense of temporal paradoxes is simple - don't even try." In 2375, after trying to work out the paradoxes inherent in there being more than one Captain Braxton and more than one Seven of Nine: "Alright, let's get started before my headache gets any worse." [#118 Relativity]
Mind-melds also give her headaches: "Mind melds. The last time I heard the words 'my mind to your mind' I had a headache for two weeks." [#146 and #147 Unimatrix Zero]
Janeway claims she has never actually broken the Prime Directive. When challenged by Kashyk [Counterpoint] that she has done just that, she responds that she knows many Starfleet admirals on a first-name basis.
Janeway said she had always wanted to meet John "Rudie" Ransom, who was an exobiologist before he commanded a Starfleet vessel, and who made first contact with the Yridians, whom the Borg called Species 6291 and thought extinct. [Equinox Part One] Please also see under 'Special Enemies'.
![]() | Janeway has "so touchably soft" hand(s) according to Q, on stardate 49301.2, in [#34 Death Wish], when he took her left hand in his. | ![]() |
Janeway says she "still struggles with basic Klingon" [#94 Hope and Fear]. She does however know quite a bit about Klingon physiology including the fact that 10 cc's of alizine is the prescribed pharmaceutical to treat Torres in [#60 Darkling]. Janeway ascribes what the Doctor calls her "excellent recall" in her Klingon physiology course at Starfleet Academy to a visiting Professor H'ohk who "permitted nothing less."
Before 2376 Janeway once met Dr Lewis Zimmerman at a conference, where he managed to offend just about everyone in attendance and kept calling her "Captain Jane". Zimmerman designed the Emergency Medical Holographic program. [#144 Life Line]
The screenshots below show inside Kathryn Janeway, in 2375, as recorded by the Doctor's holo-imager. In this year he started adding such images to the annual medical check-up of Voyager's crew, as he puts it: "By attuning the resonance spectrum along the subspace band I can take an image of my patients all the way down to the subatomic level." [#105 Latent Image].

Below are miscellaneous screenshots from TOSTW. TOSTW did not denote the source episode so I give it where I am able to recognise it. In addition, you can download these at larger sizes at WALLPAPERS along with other wallpapers with Janeway in. In the past they have been downloadable from my site as monthly calendars at, of course, larger sizes.

![]() Janeway in the captain's chair - the original image, which I have corrected and show here, had the image is back-to-front as her rank pips and hair parting are on the incorrect side and, because someone in the publishing process did not realise it was back-to-front they have transplanted her combadge to the "correct" side but failed to turn it the right way round. I think, but do not know, that the screenshot is from [#82 Message In A Bottle]. |
