CAREER : YEAR 2378 : [STAR TREK: NEMESIS] CAMEO

After many adventures, at the end of 2377 Janeway, with the help of her older self who had travelled back in time, brings ship and all the crew with few exceptions back to the Alpha Quadrant, arriving within a light-year from Earth via a Borg transwarp hub aperture. She receives promotion to the rank of admiral. As depicted in the film [Star Trek X: Nemesis], Admiral Kathryn Janeway gives orders via a comlink portable computer display to Jean-Luc Picard, captain of USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E, for him to take his ship and crew to meet the new Praetor of the Romulan Senate, Shinzon. These events occur shortly before stardate 56844.9 (in the year 2378), the actual stardate being the length of time it takes to reach Romulus.   In his captain's ready room, Picard is notified that he has an alpha priority communication from Starfleet Command. He activates his personal viewscreen and Admiral Kathryn Janeway appears on screen. Picard: "Admiral Janeway, good to see you." Janeway: "Jean-Luc, how'd you like a trip to Romulus?" Picard: "With or without the rest of the fleet?" Janeway: "A diplomatic mission. We've been invited, believe it or not. Seems there's been some kind of internal political shake-up. The new praetor, someone called Shinzon, has requested a Federation envoy." Picard: "New praetor?" Janeway: "There's more: he's Reman. Believe me, we don't understand it either. You're the closest ship, so I want you to go and hear what he has to say. Get the lay of the land. If the Empire becomes unstable, it could mean trouble for the entire quadrant." Picard: "Understood." Janeway: "We're sending you all the intelligence we have, but it's not much. I don't need to tell you to watch your back, Jean-Luc." Picard: "Not with the Romulans." Janeway: "The Son'a, the Borg, the Romulans - you see to get all the easy assignments." Picard: "Just lucky, Admiral." Janeway: "Let's hope that luck holds. Janeway out." Janeway's reference to the Son'a is to events in [Star Trek: Insurrection], and the reference to the Borg is to events in [TNG] and in [Star Trek: First Contact].
