PRE-VOYAGER CAREER

As a cadet at Starfleet Academy Janeway was famous for her all-nighters - putting off writing a report or a task until the last moment [#60 Darkling] [#140 Good Shepherd]. Her teacher in Klingon physiology was a visiting Professor called H'ohk [#60 Darkling]. While at the Academy she studied American Sign Language [#54 Macrocosm].

Janeway: "When I was a girl, I was afraid of the ocean. I liked to swim, but in a pool or a pond where I knew exactly what was beneath me, but in the open water - was no way to know what was down there - scared me to death. It wasn't until my first year at the Academy, after I went through zero-g training in the Coral Sea, that I finally got over it." [#140 Good Shepherd]

Janeway once served as Science Officer aboard the USS Al-Batani [#1 and #2 Caretaker] [#106 Bride Of Chaotica!]. Her commanding officer was Admiral Paris, Tom Paris' father. She once knocked out power to six decks by misaligning the positronic relays [#157 Shattered].

She used to have nightmares about Admiral Patterson's fractal calculus exam [#118 Relativity]. She now knows him well enough that he calls her Katie and demanded a hug when he greeted her on her first arrival aboard USS Voyager in 2371. The only question whch prevented Janeway from getting an A grade in the subject of exogenetics in her senior year at Starfleet Academy was the one on the nucleotide frequency [#113 The Fight].

Janeway completed her first starship command assignment in 2365. On her return, she first met Tuvok when he correctly criticised her in front of three Starfleet admirals for failing to observe proper tactical procedures during the voyage [#73 Revulsion].

When Janeway was a Lieutenant, during heavy fighting to capture a Cardassian outpost, she was ordered to rescue a wounded Cardassian soldier near the Starfleet position. Despite the dangers, she helped do so, and saved the Cardassian's life. The outpost was taken and she along with others in her group were decorated by Starfleet, but the moment of which she is most proud was the night she saved that Cardassian's life. [#122 Survival Instinct]

She served aboard USS Billings as a Commander, and blamed herself for a shuttlecraft accident in which three crewmembers were injured on a scientific mission. She herself completed their mission. Tuvok served aboard at the same time. [#95 Night]

USS Voyager, under the command of Captain Kathryn Janeway, received its first patrol assignment in 2371, on stardate 48183.5 (source ST:M), supported by events in [#118 Relativity]. This was the mission to the Badlands to locate Tuvok and Chakotay. During that mission Voyager was catapulted to the Delta Quadrant - those events are depicted in the series opener [#1 and #2 Caretaker].

After many adventures, at the end of 2377 Janeway, with the help of her older self who had travelled back in time, brings ship and all the crew with few exceptions back to the Alpha Quadrant, arriving within a light-year from Earth via a Borg transwarp hub aperture. She receives promotion to the rank of admiral. Some time afterwards, Admiral Kathryn Janeway gives orders via a comlink portable computer display to Jean-Luc Picard, captain of USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E, for him to take his ship and crew to meet the new Praetor of the Romulan Senate, Shinzon, depicted in [Star Trek: Nemesis].
