Kes: "Romance is not a malfunction." [#35 Lifesigns]

As a result of her medical training, Kes became a close friend of the Doctor. She encouraged him to explore his adaptive programming and helped him in his efforts to understand his human patients better. When he programmed himself to have Arethian 'flu to experience what his patients felt, Kes secretly extended the experience because knowing when it would end was not realistic. Kes identified his romantic feelings for Danara Pel [#35 Lifesigns] and encouraged him to act on them; she also gave Danara a push in the right direction.

By stardate 48579, [#7 Eye of the Needle], Kes noticed that the crew were rude to the Doctor and acted as if he did not exist in his presence. She took her complaint to the captain, who initiated a ship-wide change of attitude when she gave the Doctor control over his program so that he could turn himself on and off when he wanted. Kes discovered that no one had informed the Doctor that the crew had found a wormhole to the Alpha Quadrant and the expectation of returning home. He asked her to ensure he was turned off when everyone left, and she promised to do this, and kissed him farewell.

Janeway always seemed pleased to see Kes, and they were able to talk freely and deeply together. When Kes locked herself in the Doctor's office, frightened and confused by the early onset of the Ocampa elogium, she allowed only Janeway to enter. Kes explained to her what was happening and Janeway comforted her.

Tom Paris.

Without becoming romantically involved with Tom Paris (except in the alternative timeline depicted in [#63 Before and After]), Kes became a good friend of his. In 2372 Kes learned to pilot a Federation shuttlecraft with him as her teacher. She, along with Neelix and Kim, turned up to bid Paris farewell when he left the ship.

He left under a cloud, having exhibited malcontent feelings; none of those present to say farewell knew until later that this was part of an elaborate deception designed to unmask a traitor on Voyager.
