ARRIVAL ON VOYAGER

Kes, captured, mistreated by the Kazon-Ogla
[#1 and #2 Caretaker]
Being inquisitive and independently-minded, Kes escaped from the underground city where her people lived under the complete care of 'the Caretaker': she found her way through a breach in the protective forcefield. On the planet surface, an arid desert, she was captured by First Maje Jabin, leader of the Kazon-Ogla. At some point before then, it is not explained when, she met and fell in love with Neelix a Talaxian entrepreneur, who beguiled Janeway into bringing an away team to Jabin's settlement. They tried to trade the highly valuable resource of water for information to help find missing crewmembers Starfleet Ensign Harry Kim and the Maquis officer B'Elanna Torres. Neelix's main aim, however, was to rescue Kes.
