Altering his program so that he can daydream, the Doctor quickly finds the results become nightmarish, particularly the daydream involving an alien who insists he is real and that Voyager is about to be attacked.

Voyager becomes trapped as a planet's third pole which causes frequent ground tremors on the planet surface. But on this planet time moves at a rapid rate compared to normal time. Voyager's crew must extricate themselves within hours, before the planet's population develop from a primitive species to a hostile warp civilisation whose target is the gleaming 'skyship'. The Doctor is sent to the planet to gather information but gets trapped.
