HAIRSTYLE
Charlotte Parker, part of the show's hair department and an assistant to Joseé Normand, the show's hair designer, produced Torres' early hairstyle, which ST:M describes as "helmet-like" (it is possibly the description quoted by ST:M of Joseé Normand's description). At first the style was very short, down to about chin level, but then became longer, and has developed to a softer brown. It was worn with a braid in one episode only, [Real Life].
Joseé Normand produced the new softer, curlier look for Season 6. She says: "It was a very spur-of-the-moment thing. She was in a scene where her hair was wet and it was just a little bit messy, and when we saw the dailies [the day's filmed footage, viewed at the end of the working day to see if it is satisfactory or if any parts need re-doing etc.] I thought that was a nice look for her - a change from the very straight severe look. So we started working on that idea and I talked to the producers about it. And they said, 'Well, let's see some looks.' and Charlotte tried the wig on her. I liked that look." The effect, as seen in [Barge of the Dead], was a "less sculptured look". The amount of curliness can vary, sometimes during the course of an episode e.g. in [Alice].
