VIDIIANS

the Vidiian 'honatta' called Dereth, [#5 Phage]

the Vidiian named Motura, [#5 Phage]

It was very enjoyable going into the Vidiians' world, because we had some offshoots that we went into, that they started off in these nasty characters with all these patches of skin that they had harvested from other alien races.

And in the very beginning we started off doing: "Maybe it's a red alien here, green alien here," and then as we kept doing it, "Why don't we stick a chunk of Neelix on some guy?" so a Talaxian piece would be sitting right here.

I had to be careful the artist didn't go too far out and do something crazy. But we started to pick up textures from aliens that we'd be familiar with and started to put those into the heads.

[#35 Lifesigns]

One of my favourite episodes was when a woman became a Vidiian (in [#35 Lifesigns] the Doctor saves the life of the Vidiian woman Danara Pel) and there's this moment in time when she goes back into herself and you get to see her, what she looked like way back when.

When I read the script it was like: oh my gosh, there's these transformation type of episodes that we do - I love them.

I made the teeth for her and of course she wasn't as totally disgusting as a lot of the other ones in the past. But we went through this sort of metamorphosis with her, and she actually loved playing the part. It's funny because every once in a while I'm going through my bank of teeth that I have saved. I run into her teeth and I always got to kind of get them out and look at them and shake them and say hello.

[Star Trek Voyager] offered us different challenges all along the way by having the Vidiian scripts, Jeri being Borgified, Roxann's changing, the Doctor changing, and the actors were all into it that if a script came along that offered them the slightest opportunity to do something different with their character they jumped into it, thoroughly investigated it, and take it to its extreme, talking about it with the producers, trying to do everything to bring variety and spice into the show.
