Captain Janeway confronts Henry Starling
Ed Begley Jnr. is the son of the late character actor and Academy Award-winner Ed Begley, and was born 16th September 1949 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

He attended Stella Niagara Education Park Cadet school in Lewiston, NY.

Begley plays villainous 20th century computer mogul Henry Starling in [Star Trek: Voyager]'s Season 3 two-part story called [#50 and #51 Future's End]. Until then, he had not yet played a part in the Star Trek universe.

He first came to the attention of USA television audiences with his portrayal of Dr. Victor Ehrlich on the long-running hit television series St. Elsewhere (1982) for which he received six Emmy nominations, one per viewing season. Begley has worked on feature, television and theatre projects.
in St. Elsewhere

He has appeared in scores of television shows including Battlestar Galactica as Ensign Greenbean, and Quincy M.E., as Kit Sawyer in episode Stain of Guilt (1981), as Walter 'Speed Simpson' in No Way to Treat a Body (1978), and David Phillips in Valleyview (1977); the first two are among my favourite Quincy stories - it was in this tv series that I first came to recognise Begley. (Robert Ito, a regular of that show, and Henry Darrow one of the show's earliest guest-stars, later appeared in [Voyager] as John Kim and Kolopak, respectively the fathers of Harry Kim and Chakotay.)

Begley has appeared briefly in classic series such as M*A*S*H and Colombo (in story How to dial a murder). More recently he has appeared in several episodes of Six Feet Under as Hiram Gunderson. He was one of the stars, playing Richard P. Applegate, in the film comedy Meet The Applegates (1991), in which a family of giant preying insects bent on world destruction disguise themselves as humans and move into suburban USA.

He appeared in both Batman: The Animated Series (1992) and the live-action film Batman Forever. He appeared in The Accidental Tourist (1988) as Charles Leary and This Is Spinal Tap (1984) as John 'Stumpy' Pepys. He is sometimes credited as "Ed Begley".

Details of Begley's film, television and theatre work are at
Ed Begley Jnr. official website.

Begley is heavily involved in enviromental affairs. He resigned as the Los Angeles Environmental Commissioner when he realised that he was destroying trees with all the paper the commission was using. He was appointed to the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy in 1994. He is a vegetarian. His home is solar-powered. He owns an electric car but primarily uses his bicycle and public transport to get around. He is a Member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Actors Branch) (2000-).signature
