SEARCHING FOR THE TEMPORAL DISRUPTOR

Because Seven's Borg ocular implant can better locate irregularities in space-time, the Relativity's crew recruit her by transporting her to the Relativity through the temporal threshold from USS Voyager a microsecond before the explosion caused by the temporal disruptor which destroys ship and crew. Once on the Relativity she is persuaded to assist, briefed and equipped, including the occlusion of her Borg implants to deter curiosity, and transported to Voyager in an earlier time frame.

As temporal distortions can be identified only within a limited range, the 29th century tricorder she is issued with enables her to move throughout the ship and scan it and find the source of the temporal distortions. She is familiar with ship and crew, which is another reason why the Relativity recruits her. She is able to carry out the activity discreetly, although without realising it she becomes known to the Janeway of the 2371 time frame who remembers the encounter.

She is recruited three times in total, as the previous two attempts ended in being killed, the second time due to damage to her bionetic implants caused by having to transport through interference.

The two attempts, however, successfully pin-point where the temporal disruptor will be placed by the saboteur (whose identity is not yet known), namely inside an access maintenance panel, Deck 4, section 39, junction 49, as well as identify roughly the time period when it was planted namely 2372 when Voyager's shields were down during a Kazon attack. On the third attempt, Seven visits 2372 and, with the aid of Janeway of that time period, catches the saboteur in the act of planting the temporal disruptor, and thus learns that the saboteur is in fact an older version of Braxton.

* TOSTFF notes a location which I believe to be incorrect. I give the location as identified in the dialogue as aired on television, this being the location stated by Braxton to Seven in the holomatrix simulation: "This is a simulation of junction 49 on Voyager's fourth deck. Thanks to you, we've learned that the temporal disruptor was and will be concealed here. I gave up trying to keep my tenses straight years ago."

That older version, bitter and suffering from temporal psychosis, informs his younger self, who is commanding the USS Relativity and its crew's attempts to thwart the saboteur, that: "Listen very carefully. The circumstances of your life are going to change in the next few years. You'll be sent into rehabilitation again, forced to retire, and it's all because of Voyager! The only way for me, for us, to recover is to obliterate Voyager from the timeline. That way, none of the events that caused this illness will have occurred."

However, Lieutenant Ducane, Braxton's second-in-command, immediately arrests his captain for crimes he is going to commit, assumes command of the Relativity and confines Braxton to the ship's brig. Ducane orders Seven to apprehend Braxton (the older version) who flees through Voyager in different time frames carrying the armed temporal disruptor. Seven succeeds in apprehending him, with the aid of an earlier version of Seven, and that Braxton is transported to the Relativity where Ducane arrests him.

RESTORING THE TIMELINE

Ducane transports Janeway of the 2375 time frame to the Relativity, and recruits her to travel back to Voyager in the year 2372 and capture Braxton before he can plant the temporal disruptor. In return for leniency, as there will be a trial, the Braxton apprehended by the two Sevens discloses the exact moment when and where he will board USS Voyager, explaining that he will stumble over a fallen crewmember (caused by the ship jolting under impact from Kazon weapons fire) and thereby enabling the 2375-Janeway to apprehend him.

above screenshots: another version of Braxton materialises in 2372; he drops the temporal disruptor and his hand-phaser when he stumbles over a crewman; at that point 2375-Janeway appears from hiding and apprehends him, [Relativity]

They are both transported to the Relativity. With the temporal disruptor disarmed and the third Braxton in detention, Ducane is pleased to note that the timeline has been almost entirely restored, with only a 0.0036 incursion rate. The three Braxtons will be re-integrated in time for the trial. The two Sevens will also be re-integrated.

Ducane vindicates Braxton to a certain extent when he tells Janeway: "Oh, Captain. Braxton was right about one thing. Voyager shows up on our sensors far too often. Try to avoid time travel."

Before returning Seven and Janeway to their correct points in time and space: "Since none of your time jumps were to your foreseeable future, only the past, I see no reason to resequence your memory engrams. But remember the Temporal Prime Directive. Discuss your experiences with no one."

For the Voyager crew it is as if the whole incident never happened. But in the 29th century, Braxton, suffering from temporal psychosis, is now a broken man with the galling knowledge that he was apprehended by his nemesis. He faces a trial followed by a period of further extensive rehabilitation.
