INTRO

Hi, I'm Rain Robinson. You don't know me but the point is - one day I'm gonna be a famous astronomer!

CREDITS

  1. Hey, I gotta say thanks to Janet, someone from 'across the pond'. I hardly know her, and she's a bit weird, but she sure knows how to put up a webpage. The text is by me, but she did the picture labels and links.
  2. I must also say hi and thanks to the guys at Griffith Observatory who let me ignore them lunchtimes which is when I check my e-mail and run this webpage.
  3. And thanks to Chronowerx for providing the webspace, my computer and my computer program. That's why the page background shows the Chronowerx logo (deliberately faded so you can read the text) - actually it was kinda part of the deal that I had this page background. Anyway, I fell foul of Chronowerx's previous C.E.O. but the new management...you're great!

ABOUT ME

Age
I'm not saying, young of course but you guess! I'm single (make me an offer, guys!).

My home
I live in Los Angeles, California...yeah, that's near Hollywood. I'm a bit untidy, eat a lot of takeaway lunches (I love Chinese food; I can use chopsticks) usually at my desk, but I try to keep healthy otherwise.

My car
My car's an old blue Volkswagen camper van, bit dented, all I can afford at the moment but it's roomy and reliable enough. Can corner hard too, I once found out!click to enlarge

My job
I work at the Griffith Observatory, Los Angeles, California. They let me dress casual. I am soooo not into dressing formally unless I have to. Those are pictures of my desk. I tidied up for one of them but I got caught off-guard with another!

I do the Planetarium show at the Observatory on Tuesday nights - why not come along!

But my main job involves working on the S.E.T.I. project (that's Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence). Later on, I'll tell you of my own 'out of this world' experience back in 1996 - it's all true, no kidding!

Note by Janet: Information about the S.E.T.I. project, together with screenshots and text about Rain's S.E.T.I. laboratory are at S.E.T.I. LAB AT GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY.

What made me become an astronomer? My brother had a telescope, a little refractor. You could barely see in the tree house next door actually but it was enough. It was enough to see the rings of Saturn. I remember, I remember I used to think that they looked like jewels from a pirate's treasure. All I ever wanted since then was to reach up and touch them.

My hobbies

poster art on my lab wallI like the usual things - going to movies, hanging out with friends, you know the kind of thing.

As well as the serious star stuff that goes on at the Observatory, it's been seen in several tv programs. I'm told a tv show called "Star Trek" had an end-of-season wrap party for the cast and staff here years ago, and later scenes for another series were filmed here. Rumor has it that it was about my strange experience of 1996 - for that, see Page 3. I've never seen "Star Trek", that's sooooo not me.

Instead of modern sci-fi, give me the old black-and-white films. I really love the posters for the B-movies. My book 'B-Movie Poster Art' is one I have with me all the time, usually on my desk. I keep several posters on the lab wall.

Once the Observatory appeared in the prologue of one of my fave tv shows - 'Mission: Impossible'. See my tribute on the next page, or skip to MY DISCOVERY OF A UFO AND MEETING TOM PARIS.

Note by Janet: The 'Mission: Impossible' pages on this site cannot be searched by the site search engine.
