"Lady With An Ermine"
Leonardo's famous portrait "Lady With An Ermine" is glimpsed in a few of the opening frames of [ 79 Concerning Flight], but does not appear long or fully lit because it forms part of the fade-in, and the still screenshot is blurred because it is part of a swift camera pan that follows the rapid entry of Janeway and Holo-Leonardo. The faster a camera pan, the blurrier a still is. |

Leonardo executed the portrait "Lady With An Ermine" during his 18-year stay in Milan when Duke Ludovico Sforza, the rule of the Milan city-state, was his patron. It is a portrait of (most probably) the Duke's mistress Cecilia Gallerani. The portrait dates are 1483-1490. It is briefly glimpsed in a few of the opening frames of [ 79 Concerning Flight]. It is oil on walnut wood, measures 54.8 x 40.3 cm, and is located in the Czartorsky Museum, Krakow. The ermine was the Duke's emblem and is simultaneously a play on her surname as "gale" is Greek for ermine. The background and hair have since been roughly painted over. |
