Map Of Imola

in 1502 Leonardo accepted Cesare Borgia's offer to enter his service as a military engineer. Cesare Borgia was the natural son of Pope Alexander VI, and as such had been appointed as Captain-General of the Papal Armies. Holo-Leonardo in [79 Concerning Flight] speaks as much from personal experience as of the Borgia reputation when he warns Janeway and Tuvok that his new patron, namely the alien called Tau, "is as ruthless as a Borgia". For 10 months Leonardo travelled throughout central Italy in the entourage of his new patron. Leonardo inspected fortifications and drew up detailed maps. In [79 Concerning Flight], the comparison of Tau with Cesare Borgia may not be seriously intended, but as for Cesare Borgia so Holo-Leonardo goes with his patron to inspect his "great fortresses" as he informs Tuvok.

Leonardo also drew up a map of the city of Imola. The map dates from 1502. It is watercolour, pen and ink, measures 44 x 60.2 cm and is in the Vinci Museum, Vinci, Italy. In Holo-Leonardo's workshop provided by Tau in [79 Concerning Flight], Janeway looks at that map, and the dialogue is, I think, crafted so that the television viewer can if wished take the map as being that of Tau's city.
